First, I only care about a comparison in a mono-Nurgle list. The elite section has pretty fierce competition in it (Crushers/Flamers...who cares about anything else) so I understand the poor BON can't compete in multi-god lists. However, the question I'm debating is if the BON has a place in a Mono-Nurgle list (That still has Troop slots open.

The comparison;

Plague Bearer 15 pts
Beast of Nurgle 35 pts

Now in comparing stats, BON are basically two Plague Bearers (2 wounds, other stats same)...except the D6 attacks. However, if you roll a 2+ they are equal (if not better). So you pay 5 pts more than two PBs....to get two PBs with D6 attacks. On a 3+ it performs better than PB, which means 66% of the time it will be better in HTH. Obvious downside, it doesn't score.

So, reserve placement in an Epi list with potential to put out some serious hurt...or screw them take more scoring PBs. Thoughts?

You forgot the issue of scoring troops in your comparison.

Well my last sentence mentions it Good point to emphasize though, since 2/3 is all about scoring.

Yes, he does alright compared to Plaguebearers, but mon-Nurgle lists have the problem of not being able to kill anything. Even with Epi in there with 3 princes working up the tally Nurgle isn't an incredibly killy list. That's why Blood Crushers perform so well, because they're Rock 'Ard and super killy.

I think I'm still correct in saying this since I haven't played with beasts in this edition, aren't beasts of nurgle also cav? If so that's something else to consider. They have more of a chance of getting into hth with something.

Nope, they are S&P just like other Nurgle units. The only 'quick' unit in a mono-nurgle are Nurglings, simply due to them not having S&P...

I think beasts have a place in a mono-nurgle. The 5 pts you pay is worth having more attacks than 2 PBs on a 3+. Have them strike late with tally going...and that D6 will be pretty scary.

spot on assessment.

They are more killy than plaguebearers even if only slightly... once you've got your comfortable number of scoring units, take these guys instead of PBs, since their potential output exceeds the PBs.

And yes, if epidemius is not in the list keep these guys in the figure case.

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

They only real seem good for flooding the field with targets.
If you have 4 Plague Bearers, 2 nurglings and 3 Demon Princes....
then squeeze in a couple of pairs. (with an upgrade so you can spread wounds)

EDIT:
In regards to Killy. Breath of Chaos.
It's feared on Flamers. Don't forget Princes and Greater Demons have it as an option as well.

I am also starting to like them as sacrificial speed bump style units - through a couple of them forward as a screen against those uber killy FNP canceling units.

i don't like them too much. between the random attacks, and slow and purposeful, and a smaller unit size than plague bearers, and pretty much the same stat profile as a plague bearer. I'd rather take a herald of nurgle with breath of chaos instad of any of these guys, or more plague bearers, or more of anything else really.
