Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on painting marble. Or maybe links to tips on painting marble from previous threads or external websites.

best thing i can think of is just get some samples of Marble pics or otherwise and simply copy it. I know how to paint marble but its kinda hard to explain...tight squiggly Streaks of fortress gray, Codex gray, shadow gray on skull white or chaos black, for black marble... not sure what else i can say... My terminators symbols are done in black marble...

Yeah, that's probably the way to go, but it doesn't seem easy...

Just two things:
1. English is not my mother tongue. I´m really sorry for the misunderstandings and the kicks to the dictionary. Don´t be too hard on me, OK?
2. With the best intentions sometimes comes the worst advice. But you asked for it, didn't you?

I've seen marble effects kits in my local craft store. Unfortunately I think they're designed for bigger projects. I don't know how adaptable they would be to our fine scale needs. If you can find one, maybe take a look at it and judge for yourself. Good luck!

It isn't a true marble, but there is an effect in the Dark Eldar codex that I have used to some good effect.

Start with a base coat of black (or white). Dab with lots of tiny spots of the other color, so you get a lot of black spots with white jaggy spaces between.

Then wash repeatedly with glossy coloured ink. I usually did about 6 washes. I don't know how the current line of washes would work because they're matte. The end result can look great, though I imagine it would look less like actual marble the larger the area you cover.

I found this through a google search, though I've never tried it. Seems like it's a combination of sponging on the base texture followed up with painting (or feathering) on the marble veining.

Here's how to paint marble. If you want green marble.....

Basecoat black.
Make a layer of dark green, let it dry.
Put the green paint on very wet.
Crumple up seran wrap and blot the section with it.

It'll come out like:

that gun stock looks like Alsacorp crazer paint, which is formulated to keep whatever shape is pushed into it. And on small scale I don't think people will see the fx.. the guy at hot-lead.org is awesome. check out that link.

here's an eg of my marble -

the key is to 1, find an example (should be easy) & 2, keep the paint wet to blend in.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
