Hi folks,

I'm hoping you can help with some advice for some new inks and washes. I used to be a big fan of the Citadel Inks (particularly their chestnut and green ink), but of course they are no longer available. My remaining inks leaked badly out fo their pots during a recent move, and I need to replace them.

These days I paint with the Vallejo Game Colors line, but I've heard mixed things about their inks.

Any advice for replacing my lost inks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Keith

Have you tried the clear Tamiya paints?

I've just started using Tamiya Smoke instead of Citadel black wash and I have to say I'm quickly becoming a total convert.

I don't use the colours you used for inks, but the Citadel washes are pretty darn good - most of my washing is the Badab black though. Can't speak too much of the other colours, but I've only heard good things.

I picked up the Baal Red and Tharka Green GW Washes and am unimpressed... I think I still prefer mixing my own ink-washes (GW Inks are great.) Tamiya Smoke has many uses as well.

I personally like the Citadel washes as they enrich the colours you are washing. Not had any experience with Vellejo so cannot comment there.

I'm a long-time inker that switched to the new washes recently after being converted by the Badab Black. I also dilute them with either a bit of water or acrylic floor polish. That being said, I've got a few pots of ink and my FLGS has a handful as well. Let me know if you're interesed in them.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
