A listing of the model you have available would be helpfull. So would an idea of what kind(s) of army you friend usually fields.

ok i have two monoliths, six units of 20 warriors, 2 units of immortals, 2 units of flayed ones, 1 unit of pariahs, one nightbringer, one deceiver, three units of destroyers, 4 units of scarabs, 3 units of wraiths, 2 units of heavy destroyers, 2 destroyer lords, lord with res orb and veil of darkness, one lord with res orb, phylactery, and warscythe.

he fields an ultramarines army, he has every character and one of each hq squad choices. he has three of every elites, heavy support, fast attack, and troops.
he never fields the same army twice so i cant really tell you what he fields. but he almost always has a dreadnaught.

sorry if that doesnt help much.

You have a couple of options: 1st the monoliths are great for killing space marines with the particle whip str. 9 ap 3 kills marines quite nicely, or concentrated fire from destroyers and immortals to make him take alot of armour saves, lastly 3 units of 3 wraiths with a destroyer lord can cause some serious head aches for them str. 6, int. 6 plus their inv. save. Just don't commit your destroyer lord to quickly to the hth, let him support the wraiths by keeping them alive longer then after you have killed off some of the marines throw him in for the coup de grace and then move on to the next unit. Try not to get into hth with multiple units, try to pick them off one at a time. You might want to switch out the phylactery for a phase shifter.

Try the following list:

Deciever, 2 Monos, 2x10 Warriors, many normal Destroyers, maybe a few scarabs.

Oh man… if I had your models I’d be tempted to hold everything in reserve and Deep Strike two Monoliths amidst his line and pour out more Warriors than he can shake a stick at!

Just a note, at least 2 warrior squads need to be the table before you can hold any in reserve.

1 Monolith
3-4 Squads of 13+ Warriors
2 Units of 6x Immortals
1 Lord with shroud & Res
1 Nightbringer
2 Heavy Destroyer Units (never get closer that 30 inches)

some quick tips
Deepstrike the Monolith with one unit of Warriors in reserve
maintain a phalanx.
You need to target his troops, without those the best he can do is tie (beware, Necrons are VERY good at the art of the tie).
Don't use the HDs to target his armor. Kill his transports. You want to make him static.
Try to 'hide' the nightbringer until the Monolith drops. Make him choose his fire, don't give him a choice.
Remember not to run the nightbringer under a 18 inch distance from his lines.

Certainly, my good man. I don't know that much about Necrons, but I'd say start by capitalizing the i at the beginning of your sentence. I is always capitalized when it is used to refer to yourself, and the first letter of a sentence is also always capitalized, so you can be sure that your i should be capitalized. This is accomplished by holding down one of the keys that say "shift" on them while you press the i key.

Your next independent i also refers to yourself, and should also be capitalized, and so should the next one after that. This can be done using the method described above.

The word "can't" also has an apostrophe in it, which is used to signify that is is an abbreviation of can not. The apostrophe is used in place of the letters n and o. An apostrophe is made by pressing the key with an apostrophe ( ' ) on it. Do not press shift at the same time, as this will make a quotation mark (") rather than the apostrophe that you desire.

In the word "friends", you should also have an apostrophe, which is used to indicate possession, making the word mean that something belongs to your friend, rather than referring to multiple friends you might have.

The words Space and Marines are actually two separate words, and should not be combined. Marines is the last word in your first sentence, so it should be followed by a period, which looks like this: . and is made by pressing the key which has a period on it. Again, shift is not required here. After the period, there should be two spaces rather than one, which are made the way you have been making them; by pressing the long key known as the space bar.

The first word in your new sentence should be capitalized also, as the first word in a sentence always is. The word in question is "can", but for your purposes it should read Can. This is accomplished using the method described in my first paragraph.

It's better to simply be an idiot, as no one can call you on it here. -H.B.M.C.

Cap'n Gordino's instant grammar guide:
"This is TOO expensive." "I'm going TO the store, TO get some stuff."
"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

wh4t does grammmerz haf 2 du wit aneefing? Nightbringer beets al gramarrz!

With so many options at your disposal, it's hard to imaging you are losing. But, in my short time of Necroning I have learned to fear the almost limitless possibilities of the space marine codex. With 2+ saves, power weapons, transports, tanks, drop pods, jump troops, a special weapon in every squad, and a way to modify a list to beat nearly any metagame; Space Marines give me (it sounds like) as much trouble as they give you.
Particle whips and destroyer lords seem to be the killiest things you have. I have no idea how to defend yourself. Stay out of melee and roll lots of sixes, I guess.
Good luck.

Come on people, dont give all the bad advice for the guy. You all know the powerhouse of necrons.

Destroyers and heavy destroyers(deciver with run and abilty to set your hwy destroyers up for first turn mayhem is really sweet too), as many as you can fit in. Just keep moving and shooting all those shots and lascannons. Keep them within range of another squad so you get WBB if he manages to take out a squad. If it is an objective mission turboboost and contest his stuff in the end.
