Tell me if this is legal. ( I know its cheesy)

All your space marine units have drop pods. You split them in half. The units you are not going to drop on the first turn you setup normal and leave the pods empty. First turn you drop the units that are actually in the pods. Reserve rolls you drop empty pods. You give them death wind launcher to be even more cheesy so your opponent is forced to deal with them.

Oops wrong forum. can a MOD please move this thread to the "you make the call" forum.

It's not really a rules question, as it's perfectly legit. It is more of a tactics issue, and would belong here.

I don't think this is cheesy, I think it's a waste of your time. I would much prefer that you have your army on your half of the table rather than you dropping half of your army into mine.

I think this is a rules question i.e.- can you deploy a unit but leave its dedicated tranport in reserve?

I know the drop pod rules confuse the issue a bit, but I think the answer is: no you can't do this.

Actually you can deploy the drop pod empty, check the DA FAQ on the GW website.

I *snap* my fingers and you feel sleepy, relaxed. You feel a wave of calmness washing over you, as if you are in a lagoon of serenity. You realize that nothing really matters, but that if you don't want to here about people exploiting the rules you shouldn't damn well come on here at all, since that's half of what we damn well discuss. You also realize that the time to shut up is at hand. Now you can wake up and do that, when I snap my fingers...

It's better to simply be an idiot, as no one can call you on it here. -H.B.M.C.

Cap'n Gordino's instant grammar guide:
"This is TOO expensive." "I'm going TO the store, TO get some stuff."
"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

I don't think you understand how this works. Yes half my army is on my side on the table. my other half is dropping down on top of you turn 1 being supported by the half on my side.

You get all the benefits of a droppod force with none of the negatives.

Usually half your arrive arrives on turn 1 with the rest arriving peacmeal. Well with this tactic the entire army is on the table on turn 1 but half of it is on your side of the table. its possible to be in front and behind you on turn 1 with you stuck in the middle.

.... hmm yes you could this is perfectly legal ... would you want to? yes i can see this working well in some builds ... you could use the DP to block most of the map (theres room for 17DPs in a single FOC) but you'll be bleeding out alot of pts on lumps of C* with a storm bolter ... or alot more on one with a Deathwind Launcher ...

Two Words...
Piss Off!

Back on topic:
Really folks, you you feel that you need to bend the rules to gain an advantage that badly then go play Magic. I hear that they share your Win-at-all-costs mentality.

I couldn't agree with you more... but you gotta say it a little nicer

play by the rules, don't play with the rules

Sorry Frgsinwntr, just that this is the 3rd post today ive read that is basically a Marine Player trying to bend and exploit every little thing in there codex. Starting to really tic me off.

Also to sit here and say that all Dakka does is plot ways to break the rules really doesnt help its already tarnished image.

I agree.... I don't feel most people here do this. I think most people here are actually pretty decent.

Uh, proven fact: you don't have to deploy in your transport.

It is perfectly legal, and not at all outside of the rules to put down whatever units you want and to bring the pods in on a later turn. It's not an "abuse". It's how you play the game.

If you don't like it, please explain to me how a Master of the Forge deploying via drop pod found the time to somehow bolster the defences of a terrain piece before he left the space ship. Or does he just not get to do that anymore in 'Yourhammer'?

go stick your fist up your bottom.

how dare you say that the way one person plays the game is superior to another persons. we all approach this game for different reasons, each one perfectly valid. if you get tired of people attempting to win at a competitive game them you can bugger off. if you get tired of people attempting to interperate the set of rule by which we all have to play by, because god knows the dev team doesnt give us any insight, then you can bugger off.

you are not on the GW 40K development team. as such your opinion of the rule is valid as long as you can back it up with a cohesive and coherent argument. if you cannot then all you are doing is trolling.

please leave us to our discussion and take your narrow view elsewhere.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
