Whilst looking around me local craft store searching for plasticard i came across a section full of model tanks, apc's, planes, ship's and the likes. Well i decided to have a nose about and noticed some really good looking apc's and tanks from ww2 so i bort 2xapc's, a sherman and a challanger 2 thinking how good they would look, with some miner conversion work, in my guard army. Each one was £6.99 so i thourght i had a bargain on my hands, well when i got home and, carefully, opened the boxes i discovered they were all too small .
Well luckily the store accepted refunds, but i haven't been beaten yet.
What i want to know is to use vehicles from outside of 40k what scale should i get becouse i don't want a repeat as before.
Can any one help me.

I often copy paste things I want to remember into a txt document with 40k related advice. Someone said somewhere that:

"Basically, 1/35 is too large, 1/48 is too small. I'd go for 1/35 for smaller vehicles and 1/48 for larger ones personally."

also

"1/35 scale weapons kits are about the right size for 40k"

Hope that helps!

Look at this post:

The front half is from a 1/35 WWII German armored car kit. If you want to transfer the vehicle directly over to 40K than 1/48 scale is recommended. Although 40K games in which a ton of "counts as" vehicles are used tend to be quite weird. Especially if said vehicles are assembled straight out of the box and belong in war zones 39,000 years in the past.

Try meshing the kits with current warhammer vehicles. The conversion possibilities are endless and add a very original element to your army. For this purpose the kit you buy really depends on the kind of vehicle you want to make.

@Capt. Gerntassa 1/35 challenger would make a good hull for a Baneblade - way too big for a Leman Russ. Go with 1/48 for modern stuff. A 1/72 scale M-1 Abrams is about 3 1/2-4" long (too small.) 1/35 is around double wide and long (and baneblade sized).

Some WW2 stuff works well in 1/35 (smaller stuff like Universal carriers [centaurs], Shermans and Panther 1s.)

Most model stores I've been into usually have a display case showing completed kits. You can generally see how large the model will be using this.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Cheers for all the input people,
unfortunatly my local crafts shop doesn't have a display stand, their all in the boxes unfortunatly.
I was hoping for some apc's for my command squad and a couple of armoured fists, whislt some shermans for me LRs
so would the 1/35 scale work for them or would you recommend something different( model/scale)
And yes i was gonna add parts/weopons from the LR kit to make them look more 40k-ish
thanx
