After having hunted down the usual stuff using Google Earth, the desert aircraft storage sites in the US, WWII European battle fields, ancient ruins etc. I started to drift around the world. My eyes were drawn to the Pacific and the small dots there, which on further investigation turned in to various size atolls and islands with some interesting history. There was one atoll called "Johnston's Island?" that had a huge runway on it that is no longer used by the US.

So anyway, has anybody else found anything interesting places using Google Earth or learnt something really interesting when checking out a location?
