Hi, Just curious what everybody feels is the best Assault based army now??

I am a long time Ork but lots of people are now doing shooty Otks (Heresy) , but is there a better close combat army out there?

FYI - I usually play in 1500pt games.

Would it be Orks (Nob Bikes) maybe or Crusaders with Assault Termies, Dark Eldar or something else!!

daemons make pretty nasty in cc they can deepstrike and they have power weapons

Black Templar are mean with the Emperor's Chump, er Champion taking the preferred enemy vow so everyone in the army getting rerolls

I think Orks are still the cats pajamas as far as being an assault army. Stormboyz move...where they want to, and FAST! Max them out, and then put all your troop choices in trukks and battlewagons (deffrollaz! Run down da skumgrods!). 2 Warbossi on bikes. Sounds like a turn 2 blood bath to me. The only thing hurting Orks is Initiative. You could max out on Nobs with stikkbombs (count as troops) to allay that situation as well as kit the whole mob out differently for wound allocation.

It seems like Daemons rely the most on assault in order to win. At least other races have the option of not assaulting and doing decently.

As far as assault armies go, Orks don't really have much competition - they are, as Dez might say, the bee's knees (totally stealing that cat's pajamas phrase, btw).

Khorne Daemons are truly nasty in CC. All of them (except Flesh Hounds) have power weapons. They're the true bane of MEQs. Against armies with lighter armour, Slaanesh Daemons are pretty nice too. Lots of rending attacks and VERY fast.

I agree. Even better if there are full Zerker squads in Land Raiders. with daemonic possession.

Space wolves? blood claws get something like 4 attacks on the charge.

But only at WS3.

I'd vote for Orks being CC champs still. Nob Bikers are amazing at what they do, but limited in numbers.

Mobs of 30 Shoots Boys is the way to go. 3 attacks on the charge each and they have an awesome gun to soften up foes at mid range. Throw in Nob w/ PK and its on!

on a more serius note my vote is for Dark Eldar, Incubi retinue will eat anything with armor for dinner and the wyches neuter power weapon squads. the few units you don't want to assault you have mass Dark Lances to handle.

Accualy on the dark eldar thing I once made a list. had something like 9 darlk lances and 4 of that other one *the one that can kill 3 mairnes a turn*

it seemed like a very viable list even with todays rules. makes me wonder why most people dont play them.

Orks certainly were shooty in 2nd ed, but they were even shootier in the earlier incarnations of Epic.

Pure Slaanesh daemon armies are pretty rubbish, but they do well at combat if nothing else.

Eldar aspects plus storm guardians are a hard hitting combo plus autarch or even a counsil are real contenders
