Bought COH yesterday, cheap, and after about 45 minutes of downloading patches before it would let me play I'm pretty impressed (Yes I know its 2 years old).

Up to defence of Carentan. Snipers and mortars are my favorite units so far.

Only annoyingthing is not being able to reinforce my units for seemingly long periods of a mission/ever. In the assault on Carentan one unit in the initial assault was reduced to 1 man and he sat back the rest of the mission because I didn't want to throw him away.

Also the game shuts down every 5 minutes or so and takes me back to windows, I can just click back in but its very frustrating.

Also I have no idea where its hidden on my hard drive and there is no desktop icon. I get in via the disc file, but the saved games are on my hard drive somewhere.... bizarre.

AHA!

Found it on my hard drive and created a shortcut.
Now it doesn't stop every few minutes. Much better time.

Reinforcing units has to be near a HQ for infantry, of a field HQ which you can make by garisoning a building, that might be your problem or it might just be the mission. Also para troopers can only reinforce in freindly areas.

The most fun for that game is getting together with a friend and doing co-op multi player battles against the computer, utter carnage.

And if you dont have opposing fronts for it, consider getting it as the British are a very different but cool side to play compared to the yanks. The germans on opposing fronts however i find a little dull.

But generally 2 years on i still think this is one of the best RTS games out there

Thanks for that I'll try it.

Am going to assault Cherbourg tomorrow.

I'll play through this then look at getting opposing fronts.

That series is awesome, I love it. Played a skirmish last night just for the heck of it, and it hasn't lost any of its luster.

One thing you'll find in the skirmish games is that the map size really affects your decision for your "upgrade path" (infantry, armor, etc).

Tales of Valor hits in the spring, right around Dawn of War II. Good ol' Relic.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Having played both, I can comfortably say that Dawn of War II is better than company of heroes.

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!
