YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Just got back from LGS, my first tournament in a looong time. Just a small friendly, 24 attendees.
1000 point lists. Sportsmanship, presentation, etc. taken into account I think... I only had six painted models. Heh. Anyway, here is the list I used:

Farseer 120
Doom, Guide, Spirit Stones

5 Fire Dragons 80

Falcon Grav-Tank
Brightlance, Holo-Field 160

9 Dire Avengers + Exarch 252
Blade Storm, 2 Shuriken Catapults, WAVE SERPENT w/ linked shuriken cannon

9 Dire Avengers + Exarch 252
Blade Storm, 2 Shuriken Catapults, WAVE SERPENT w/ linked shuriken cannon

Fire Prism 135
999

GAME ONE:
Pitched Battle, Killpoints.

I had been told that someone would be bringing a list with four carnifexes, a flyrant, and two squads of stealers.
They're weren't kidding; it was my first game.
I got deployment/first turn, so I put out my four skimmers and got shooting. First turn, hit nothing. Big bugs closed in, and I played the 'run away game', but I couldn't take down the Flyrant.
Two fexes had twin devourers, and two were pure assault T7.
As it was killpoints, I wiped out the closest genestealer squad with my small arms, and started to go for the gunfexes, which were dangerous to my fragile troops.
Unfortunately I popped out my fire dragons (from falcon) one inch short of firing on the Tyrant, and they ate devourer-death. As I had to keep firing, I was making 12" moves and the flyrant inevitably caught up. One killpoint to six; I took two fexes and the tyrant down to a single wound, but couldn't finish them off. If my first round of shooting had done anything, and I didn't botch the Dragons disembarkment, I may have taken the flyrant out early and things would have been completely different.

GAME TWO:
Table Quarters, Single Objective in Centre

This was against a Daemonhunters force. Incidentally, NO ONE brought daemons to the tourney. Someone was supposed to be slugging Khorne daemons but didn't show...
Kitted out Inquisitor Lord including multi-melta dude, two squads of Stormtroopers with a plasmagun/powerweapon sergeant each, vindicare assassin, and ten Fast Attack PAGKs with a psycannon.

My prism sat back and fed pie to the Lord/retinue, while my serpents maneuvered to either side of the cover on my side of the objective. He moved one squad of his stormtroopers up to the objective quickly, and I forgot to disembark my serpents after the first move as I had intended, in my eagerness to keep tossing blast markers at the exposed Inquisitor. It mattered not. I spent the first turn otherwise firing shuricannons/falcon at the vindicare, but his invul save took care of it. He knocked the cannons off one of my Serpents with the vinidicare's Turbo-Penetrator... In retrospect, I'm not really sure if he should have gotten 3d6 to penetrate vs. Energy Fields. Meh
He dropped his Grey Knights behind my echelon of transports, and fired on the rear armour of the Farseer/DA transport, to no avail. I moved my tanks forward a bit and let everyone out. The non-Farsser DA squad bladestormed the Grey Knights, leaving three, as my transport shuricannons hammered the Lord retinue/stormtroopers. The Fire Dragons took care of the rest of the PAGKs, which means they achieved absolutely nothing. The following turn a DA squad took some casualties, but hey were near the objective and charged through cover into the Stormtroopers holding it. The FDs took care of the Vindicare, and the Farseer's squad of DAs wiped out most of the other Stormtroopers. The Inquisitor andd his two remaining squad members failed to make it into combat, and was IK'd by the FDs. The two DA squads and Farseer chopped their way through the Stormtroopers on the objective, and I had annihilated him by the start of the fifth.
Poorly matched lists, not really a satisfying victory, but nice to win after the botched first game...

GAME THREE:
Dawn Of War, Three objectives.

This was one of the four Ultramarine lists present, and probably the weakest. Whirlwind, Techmarine, Ironclad, Librarian in Terminator armour, ten-man Tac squad with missile/flamer, Five man scout squad with rifles, and Five Vanguard vets with a powerfist and a plasma pistol in there.
Opponent had deployment, so I stayed in reserve. He put his scouts in my deployment zone in a building, and Gated forward the Librarian +Tac squad. I came on, moved forward, and pied his Tac squad for a couple of casualties. Serpents took the flank his whirlwind was on, and got too close before he could do any damage with it.
He gated the librarian out of the Tac squad, directly in front of the Fire Prism, and destroyed it with Vortex o'Doom. It all went downhill for him from there.
Fire Dragons IK'd the exposed Librarian, and the Falcon put some shots into the Tac squad. A Doom, a Guide and a Bladestorm later, and the marines were gone. He still had his scouts in the building taking pot shots at the rear armour of some of my tanks, but they only stopped the Falcon from firing the next turn. The Dragons got back into it and zipped off for the Ironclad, which failed to hit anything the entire game. I embarked my farseer/DAs again and took them to the centre objective, while my other DAs embarked and went for the ruins he had placed his side objective on. It failed the difficult terrain test and ate gak, but that just meant I got to disembark thme automatically when I wouldn't have been able to that turn otherwise. The FDs cooked the Ironclad, the Falcon cooked the Whirlwind, and the Farseer's DA squad doomed and guided the single techmarine into overkill-death-goodness. So then I just sat on the objectives for two more turns, doing nothing, ignoring the scouts that didn't achieve anything. My side objective was on the opposite end from where he had deployed his scouts, so I didn't bother holding it.
Oh yeah, the Vanguard vets scattered directly between my two Serpents on turn 4, just out of charge range of either. They'd been moving at combat speed either way, and the Vets just got mashed by the shuricannons.

GAME FOUR:
Pitched Battle, Victory Points Only

To make things interesting, the last game was a good old VP match. To make things even more interesting, I was up against Tau. He had two squads of FWs with the leadership dudes, 3Wound Commander with two bodyguards/two shield drones, armed with burst/plasma, a Skyray, a Hammehead, and three sniper drones/controller.
This match was kind of dodgy. I mean my opponent was. I'm not too sure on the Tau Empire book, though...
This match was very even, though my firepower proved to be more effective... he had some pretty bad rolls, but seemed to fail to grap the Holo-Fields rule no matter how much I repeated it, I had to tell him when his suits had been IK'd, he had a lot of trouble telling me what the side armour of Tau vehicles are, and was a little dodgy with his markerlights. He also kept re-moving units for LOS after other units...
Whatever, dude. If that's the way you want to play.
He was a cheerful guy, and neither of us were going to be in the top tier, so I kind of just ignored it when he didn't even count up his VPs at the end. I told him he'd scored almost 400 on me, whereas he only had his Skyray and the sniper drones left on the table. Because I didn't know what they were worth, and because he just wandered off and told the organiser that it was a draw while I was still counting VPs, I just let it slide. I also forgot to make a morale check for my Farseer/DA squad amidst the general confusion of his turns, which possibly could have made a draw (within 100 points of each other) if they had failed (the DAs were below half strength). He damaged all of my tanks except for the Falcon, failing to destroy any. One skimmer was immobilised but hadn't moved that turn so was just sitting there.
My other serpent lost it's shuricannons early and I kept forgetting to ram his Skyray with it. I only got three hours of sleep last night, forgot to bring scatter dice/template, so I was a bit of a wreck by the afternoon...

Overall my Dragons/Falcon performed extremely well, and I only failed one psychic test, for a Guide, in the last game. My two absolute wins made up for the first and last matches... Loss, Win, Win, Draw was my official stand (should probably have been Lose, Win, Win, Win), and I placed ninth overall out of twenty-four.

First place was another mech eldar list, with same Farseer, two prisms, a scattervyper, one scatterwalker, one DA squad in Serpent with Starcannons, and another Serpent with Guardian squad w/EML platform. I think. He also had a very well painted army... but then Ulthwe are the Ultramarines of Eldar.
Second place was a Nurgle army; two squads of PMs with plasmaguns, Lord, a rhino... I think that was about it.
Third place might have been Orks. Didn't see that army.

Great day! I'm so bloody tired...

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Cheers wuestenfux; you bumped me on the holo-falcon. I think I'll drop the prism and try with a couple of EML vypers next time I play this scale.
I've just based my Fire Dragons (partially with sand/road-grit from the floor of my car ), and they're about to be painted as their long-overdue reward.

Sun has just risen here in Aus... arg.

I'm pretty sure that under 1500pts you can't take more than 3 carnifex's, the elite ones are only allowed at 1500+

Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure you're absolutely right. Not that his combat-fexes got anywhere near me... Ah well, too late now.

Ye, carnifexes can only be taken as elites in armies of 1500+ points.
Not that your list was entirely flawless though, a falcon with holo-fields and a bright lance is 180 points in my book, not 160.

Good to hear you had fun though.
