Still suprised no one else posted this:
Forge World Will be Passing on UK Tax Reduction to its Customers
Recently, the UK Government has decided to reduce the rate of Value Added Tax (the UK sales tax) on all products subject to it by 2.5%, reducing it from 17.5% to 15%.

As a result Forge World will be passing on the effect of this reduction to all its customers with immediate effect, which will be represented by a reduction in our prices. All orders placed on our online store from now on will be processed and charged at these new lower rates, (except for our book products, which are not subject to VAT.)

This is great news for all our customers worldwide, because although this is a UK tax change, we have decided to apply these new lower prices to all the orders placed directly with Forge World, not just those from within the UK. This means that Forge World models are now lower in price for everyone.

You can see our new prices on our webstore, Here.

If you have any further questions or queries on this, please feel free to contact our sales and customer services team on 0115 9168177 from within the UK, or on 01144 115 9168177 from the US and Canada, or 0044 115 9168177 from Europe. Our lines are open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday UK time.

I noticed this last night... the Mk IV Dreads with arms came down just enough to be much more in-line with the plastic Cread prices... I plan on buying a bunch of stuff I've been drooling over.

Its nice of them not to keep the price the same and pocket the 2.5% as profit. Also shows how over priced the plastic dreadnought is.

Bollocks is it nice. All overseas orders are overpriced because VAT is included in the price - FW doesn't have to pay VAT to the government on non EU sales. All US sales include VAT at 17.5% which is pure extra profit in comparison to the UK sales. And the cheeky so and so's have the nerve to overseas sales extra postage.

Overseas people who buy FW need their head examined - you are purposefully getting the shaft in comparison to some-one buying it the UK. FW shows a disturbing lack of ethics to its customers because if FW had any sense of ethics or decency the 17.5% wouldn't have been in the overseas price to begin with.

The plastic price in the UK should also come down. If it doesn't it is just additional profit for GW.

I agree completely. Plus having 25p off for every £10 really doesn't seem a big deal to me.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

I understood it as Forgeworld doesn't charge the VAT tax for non-UK customers... I interpreted the message on the site to mean that since FW's materials' costs were going down a little, they were reducing their prices a little to pass on the savings. There's no VAT tax listing charged on my last purchase from them... if there was I would have filed the VAT refund form and gotten that back like my father does when he buys vintage toy trains from UK sellers that charge it.

whidbey

fw charges vat on overseas prices.
example
the 200 pound forgeworld mammoth. costs 200 in the uk or the charge you 200 to ship it to the states.
when i purchased the mammoth a few years ago for a friend in the uk. I was able to get a VAT refund.
VAT isn't listed on most reciepts in the uk it is just included in the price.
they don't charge VAT for out of country sales they just charge you more.

Unfortunately you are wrong and this is the ignorance that FW relies upon.

If you live in the UK and you purchase a 200GBP model with VAT @17.5% FW keeps approx 170 and 30 goes to the UK government as VAT (170 x 17.5%)
If you live in the US and you purchase a 200GBP model FW keeps all 200 of it - nothing goes to the UK govt and then they also charge you extra to ship because you live oversea.

For overseas people the charge is 200GBP and therefore no VAT has been charged and therefore there is nothing to claim back. People in UK are charged 200GBP with VAT included. You have just been charged more for the same product.

Welcome to the FW "shaft". Try emailing them if you don't believe me.

So will the rest of GW be passing on the change, or will it be cheaper (slightly) to buy plastic vehicle kits from Forgeworld than from their main site?

That comes damn close to being a personal attack. I knew exactly what I was doing when I paid FW for my stuff, and your insinuation that I'm some kind of dribbling idiot is really uncalled for.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Yeah, I did some research about it last night after checking about it here and on Warseer... us non-UK buyers get screwed because VAT tax is stupidly built in to the item costs instead of calculated like US sales-tax as a separate line item. That's why the VAT refund forms specifically exclude internet purchases.

All this talk about price gouging has got me thinking... Isn't plastic made from oil? Hasn't the price of oil been dropping like a stone in a lake? So, why aren't Land Raiders $20.00 each by now?

I would not expect the cheap oil to last. Once the economy gets back into shape, the price will spike back up.

I was at my local bunker yesterday and bought some FW. They are giving you a 2% discount on it, granted they are using a calculator to get 2% then they credit it off the total.
On a side note, the red shirt i was dealing with is from the UK....he had NO idea what the 2% discount was for and tried to pass it off as a change in the conversion rate.

Taking 2% off the sale price is the wrong way to compensate for the VAT decrease, you have to remove 2% of the 17.5% added onto the original retail price which isn't the same thing at all.

If a kit is £10.00 then 2% off that is a reduction of 20p. But taking 2% off the VAT added is different. First you work out the retail price without the VAT. So the £10 price tag in the shop is 100% (cost of item) + 17.5% (VAT), total = 117.5%. 1% = £0.0851 So the original cost of the item is £8.51 + £1.49 VAT. But you want to reduce the VAT to 15.5%, so the VAT is actually £1.32.

£1.32 + £8.51 = £9.83, or a reduction of 17p. Not 20p.

If they're giving you a straight 2% off the RRP they're giving you too much, not a lot on £10 but it adds up when dealing with larger sums.

@ Howard, they're giving a 2% rebate to account for a 2.5% (the drop was to 15%) drop in the vat. If you run the numbers it works in all cases with a buffer, and they arent giving too much back. If you sub it in the reduction ought to be 22p on a 10 pound item, and you only get 20p back.

Oh come off it, most companies don't bother with this, it's not unique to Forgeworld in any way, I can only think of a couple firms that don't do this, and they are generally rather small outfits (like Palmers paintball stuff). FW charges a flat price for anyone in the world. If that person happens to be in the EU, then a portion of that sale goes to the government, if not, then they get to pocket the difference. Their pricing (if they are anything like most other firms) takes this into account, and is relatively higher than it would otherwise be. I'm sure if there were no VAT then FW products would be a little cheaper, with more profit from UK/EU sales as a result of not paying the VAT but less from sales to elsewhere, resulting in about the same net profit.

Also, most people know exactly what they are buying when they buy from FW, we aren't all stupid, really we aren't. Furthermore, given that it's a luxury import item, it's to be expected, especially since it's not available through other channels at any lower price. (and how are we getting the shaft compared to someone buying in the UK other than from shipping? the price remains the same, and shipping from most retailers in the UK/EU and elsewhere to the US is typically 10-20% so FW really isn't that far off the mark)

FW has a lot of things to complain about (inability to contact people there, slow processing and shipping times, miscasts, etc), this really isn't one of them.

This is where the much vaunted VAT rebate falls apart. News says a CD costing £9.99 will cost 17p less. No it wont its £9.99 because its a rounded price. They might change to 9.95, another rounded price but that is it. If I GW plastic is priced band E it will sell at band E and the price wont change. The VAT discount is a grab bag for retailers. It will only defacto kick in on items over £100.

Expect no changes to prices on anything less than an army deal for GW retail. Forgeworld charges on non-bracketed pricing and can thereby will have to pass on the rebate directly.

Thanks, I didn't realise it was 2.5%, I thought it was just 2%. In that case they aren't giving you enough. Not that it makes much difference when you're laying out £10.

It actually works out as a 2.13% redcution to the overall price.

The old price paid was Price of procduct + 17.5% or 117.5% of the price. You are now paying Price of product + 15% or 115% of the price.

So if the product was £100 we were paying £117.50 and now we are getting this for £115 a difference of £2.50 which is 2.127% of the original price.

As to the price gouging of UK vs Non-UK, we all end up paying the same amount for the same item, but in the UK we end up giving the Government 15% of it.

Also a change in VAT rate will not change the price of the raw materials as FW will claim that back as VAT is meant for the end of the supply chain.

Maybe it's just me but all of GW's kit and blister prices have also dipped, not by much but it's still something. A battleforce regularly costs 50 quid, right now they're shown at 48,95, not shocking but still a reduction in price.

Yes, I was wrong. The adjestments are made at the till. Apparently the VAT comes with a strict condition, if the price isnt reduced proportionately the VAT is not reduced either.

Gw can 'adjust' price later, but must cut price now.

I don't know why people are getting excited about this.

I was in Warhammer World yesterday and bought a Thunderbolt - original price £75. Now with a 2.5% VAT reduction it became £73.40!!

big whoop - the amount I saved doesn't even cover a new pot of paint.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if the government is putting VAT back up again in a year and putting up taxes to pay for the 'savings' now. I can guarantee the tax increase will be significantly more than a pot of paint...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?
