So I read on another forum I'm on that troops in vehicles hold points.

I don't buy it, but being new here I could be very wrong.

Discuss.

It's true troops hold objectives, it doesn't matter if they are in a vehicle or not. It might have to be a dedicated transport though, i can't recall.

well you don't have to buy it, because you can just read the rulebook to learn the rules, not listen to hearsay.

The last sentence of page 90 says

"Unit of Troops embarked in a transport can control objectives (measure the distance to their vehicle's hull)."

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Not sure you need to be nasty about it.

I clearly stated I'm learning and may very well be wrong.

Well, you have to buy the rulebook!

Yes, a good way to secure an objective is to have some troops in a "mobile pillbox" sit on it. Even if the vehicle is damaged, the troops can still survive.

you can however contest objectives with all vehicles, which is a great way to displace plague marines hiding in cover on a base objective towards the end of the game.

Vompire, welcome to Dakka. Please use punctuation in the future. You’re arguments will be sign with greater merit and you’ll avoid people calling you on it.

I looked through the rulebook and couldn't find it anywhere. Do immobilized transports still contest? Like would a drop pod landing directly on an objective contest it?

Any unit contests. A vehicle is a unit until it's destroyed (at which point it's terrain or removed; depends on the chart results).
