I have been playing the PC version a fair amount. It takes a lot of the great things from CoD4 and applies it to a world war 2 setting which is very cool. There are a few problems with it that have made me play it a lot less than I would have though...

first off the game is set at a much longer range than past CoD games, so long ranged weapons and grenade spam are big problems compared to the thompson/mp5 heavy games in the past. My style is stealth assault which is heavily weakened in this CoD.

The game is also by treyarch instead of infinity ward and feels a little bit less polished as a result. The game moves slower than CoD4 and the graphics are not as big and cartoony. It can be hard to distinguish opponents in multiplayer due to the long range and grey colour palette.

On the whole if you liked past CoD games you will enjoy it, but I am not going to stop playing CoD4 just yet.

London.

I think COD4 was great, but I've played it too much now. I like the new challenges that the new game brings. I think the dogs and artillery strikes work well, and the guns seem well balanced on the whole. However, I do have some quarrels.

1. Juggernaut. This really should be dropped. Nothing screams ''handicap'' more than extended health. I can forgive low ranking players, but it should be capped at level 10, or when your kill to death ratio is over 0.5. People whore are, say, level 30 and still using it are justly berated. Wimps.

2. Gun challenges. I'm a little annoyed that some of the guns are challenge locked at 25 kills. This makes the quest for bonus xp difficult and there are time when (headshots aside) you will have done them all. This forces you to grind certain levels out.

3. Gun upgrades. Some guns have loads, some have hardly any. I love the FG42, but it kicks like a mule and a re-introduction of the grip would have been nice. Bipods are ok but usually impractical.

4. Tanks. I love the idea of tanks, and have done very well with them, getting a 36 kill streak with my trusty panzer. However, tank vs. tank combat is flawed, and usually ends up being a battle of attrittion. A single shot to the rear should take out an enemy tank, thus adding in a further tactical edge.

4. Spawning. In cod4 you have a reasonable idea of where the enemy are being respawned (usually the opposite side of the map to where your team are at that moment). Getting spawned in front of a group of enemies is unfair and stupid. I'm not whining; I've killed enemies who have materialised out of thin air but I'm never satisfied with those points. If it can work in cod4, it should work in cod5.

5. No golden guns? I'm all for historical accuracy but one of the highlights of cod4 was nailing people with my golden Dragunov. My pimping days are over.

Aside from those points, I think it works well. I agree with Legoburner to an extent, although I think ranged weapons are a better choice simply through the new maps being, on the whole, quite large. I still get wasted by people with Thompson's though; they are definitely the new P90/ brainless spray and pray. It's definitely a more lethal game, and it pays to think about cover enemy movements. The recon plane really comes into its own, mainly due to the comments I made about spawning above.

Overall, very similar to its predecessor, and so by default a great game.

I really should be spending my time more constructively.

It’s solid, but not wonderful. I like the emphasis on ranged weapons, and like that bolt-action is actually a useful weapon for a change. SMGs and the like should only be effective in the right circumstance… ie building to building fighting.

My only real complaint is the limited nature of the single player campaign. CoD4 had maps and mission designs that allowed for a range of approaches, and encourage players to flank enemy positions. It was a step ahead of most single player FPS just because your standard of play could be improved so much by clever manoeuvre.

CoD5 not only fails to live up to the high standard of CoD4, it regresses to be well below the standard expected in most FPS. You end up moving from one scripted fight to the next, with few opportunities to outflank an enemy position. In a lot of situations in the Japanese campaign I moved to flank a bunker only to be stopped by impenetrable light scrub. Annoying.

Still, it is a fun game.

To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Been playing it online alot, and most of the clan i am in have shifted over to it from COD4. For me the increase in map size has made it much better, i also think the maps are done with alot more thought. I say this from a camper / defender point of view, in COD4 you could rape from the right posistion, but in CoD5 it seems hard to get a really good posistion to defend from that is not flankable in some way... though bouncing bettys do help.

Also the return of capture the flag is welcome, though you get 100 points per flag capture but practically nothing for defending or getting your flag back, that seems wrong.

Also it should be noted that like CoD4 myself and my clan only play the game in 'hardcore' mode which i love, makes the bolt actions even more useful on the large levels, but also makes the SMG's a little long ranged at times. Still i dont think you can go far wrong with the BAR and a bipod in the game.

My only real complain would be as the chap said above, Juggernaut. Should be dropped entirely, and nothing ruins a game of hardcore quicker then a bunch of people running round with that on as it seems stronger, and seems to recharge quicker then it ever did in CoD4

Treyarch took the entire CoD4 Engine and put in new weapons, campaign and visuals, as well as some good new stuff, like vehicles and coop, but they've basically just ripped the vital organs out of CoD4 and put on a new layer of skin... I want it, but I'd rather get L4D or something more innovative.

So it's good, but I know alot of friends that still prefer CoD4.

Well, apparently it's harder than CoD4 on Veteran, but I'm not sure. I'll be getting my hands on it in a couple of days and I'll let you guys know my own personal opinions.

It's about as long, and shouldn't take you more than a week, even at high difficulties.

It's harder on the higher levels, but a lot of that increased difficulty is due to unfair things (like grenades exploding the second they reach you, enemies shooting past your friends at you). There's still lots of kickass moments, but a few less than CoD4.

I've enjoyed playing it through a second time, but doubt I'll play it through multiple times like I did with CoD4.
