I have a regular opponent that takes liberties with his movement i.e. neglecting to move models accurately by measuring one models distance and then moving the others around/behind it as he sees fit. And we had a disagreement on the weekend over the positioning of his models in CC.

I understand that if a model cannot move through an area that it’s base would not fit through, then it cannot move in there.

My question is, if a model moves into close combat and its pose limits it from getting into base to base contact, is it legal for said model to “back into combat”?

For example, my friends Hormagaunts have poses that makes them quite “bulk” i.e. their limbs are well beyond the limits of the base, he will position then, often backwards or not even facing combat so that they each make base to base combat.

Am I just being a pedant or is he taking advantage of the rules interpretation?

Since there is no front/side/rear arc like in Warmachine, he can orient his models in cc any way he pleases.

Cheers. Just me being a pedant.

Not really, if he's moving models farther than they should be able to (a "magical" 6 inches) then he's cheating, end of story.

Oh yeah. I am, off course, not talking about the first part of the post. Having a liberal attitude towards measuring distances is completely unacceptable.

(Sour, the questions posed by OP was:

Which I answered.)

But when it comes to CC, my point about orientation of models stand.

Ya it says base to base, not face to face You also have to remember that just because the model is static doesn't mean that the actual soldier would be. that dynamic pose of his may limit him from being stuck under buildings, but if he lowered his sword for a second he would fit. It's not like ECs run around holding their sword in the air the whole battle.

If you want to be a dick about fitting models after he's been a dick with 'eldar inches' that's your prerogative, but I'd say its probably better to go easy on that and just yell at him every time he uses generous measurement to move his units.

I think it is even pedantic to make him turn them around to get into physical base contact. If he has enough movement to get into base contact, then it seems a bit much to deny it because his model extends over his base.

Every time I have a unit of Hormagaunts go into CC it is always ass-first so I can actually base them...
