Subject: Pedro Cantor...worth it?

Just picked up cantor for my fledgling crimson fists army (2000 pts). I'm a little disturbed by the fact that he's not benefitting froma a 3+ armour save and I almost feel he's not worth it. I've taken two squads of stergaurd vets to help boost his usefulness, but what else is there that I can do to max his efficiency? In short, how do I use Pedro Cantor?

I'd say pretty much just how you are. Drop pods + sternguard + pedro are the way to go. Remember pedro has a +1 attack bubble, so make sure to deploy him with that in mind.
Also pedro + CC unit means a ridiculous number of attacks. This may be the only time I would take an honour guard squad, as 115 points for the three is a bit of a bargain when they get 4 attacks each.

yeah, the honour gaurd is a no-go, but plenty of vets and terminators will make things interesting.

Why doesn't he have a 3+ save? Is he wearing scout armor? The Sternguard ability is nice, but the +1 attack bubble is very, very tempting. This dramatically increases the effectiveness of a bunch of units.
You can attach Pedro to a 10 man assault squad who soak up the incoming fire (making Kantor invulnerable until assaulted) and then gain an extra attack. Get a unit of Grey Knights into combat nearby and they will have 3 attacks each all day. Grey Knights coming out of a land raider with 10 assault termies running up along side make a forminable assault elemment which can bring down half an army in a few turns, all with an extra attack from Pedro, huge.

A lot of special characters have "lost" artificer armor. Calgar, Shrike, Kantor, Tigurius all have regular power armor. However, the Iron Halo becoming standard kit on captains and masters makes up for it pretty well imo.

Pretty much, put him in the middle of you fire line, wait for the inevitable CC attack, then drop some Vanguard on their asses and call it a day.

Cantor is worth it if your going to take plenty of Sternguard.

I have been using him in my Vulkan-primary armor for his +1 attack bubble. Him plus some master-crafted Thunder Hammers destroy squads and special units real quick. Just hate that he is in power armor and for some reason he curses every Land Raider I have put him in so that it will blow by round 2.

Isnt artificer armour now something that comes with a techmarine. Possibly a captain with artificer armour is essentially a former techmarine promoted to officer status?

Or Dreadnoughts. Cantor and a 6 Dreadnought list (the Dreaded Wedge) is terrifying.

Kantor is the best special character imho. The lower save and his I1 attacks are a bit of a problem but he is more of a supporter then a front line guy.

Awesome Autarch
|
is he worth it? he is amazing for his points! He is undercosted big time, and great at everything.
You can create some sick combos with him. Throw him in with a squad of basic assault mraines on foot in a land raider with two flamers and a power sword sarge (use their rhino for a tac squad, saves points), with a chaplain or libby as support and you have a brutal assault squad for realtively few points.
use him in a static shooty list and you have a stubborn army with bad ass counter assault. the stern gaurd hs stand snext two counter assault with base three attacks! or use assault termies for the same effect.
or use him in a mechanized list (pods or rhinos) with sterngaurd and you have another sweet combo.
Kantor kick serious ass for not many points.

Totally worth it. 6 10 man tac squads, + 3 10 man sternguard squads = the only army that can have between 9 and *18* scoring units in the game (that arn't guardsmen). (tho I havn't actually added the points on that )
If two sternguard squads walk up to your lines with pedro in the middle... what is really going live through that much ap3 death?

Well, being stubborn can be a liability. The ability to withdraw a unit from cc or if it faced some casualty via shooting is priceless.

I did some calculations and you have a higher wound ratio with a chaplain with the re-roll to-hits than with Pedro's +1 attack. Though if you don't roll through the unit on the first round of assault or get assaulted, that extra attack would be nice.

Chaplain only applies to the squad he's joined. Pedro applies to everything within 12". Big difference.
Create a multiple assault scenario with 3 Ironclad Dreadnoughts.

Absolutely true, seen combat tactics used to good effect (kinda sad to not have it as a Salamander player). The more agressive Kantor lists are definitely at a bit of a liability. The razroback spam Kantor list though, will be sitting near the board edge and I think that is where stubborn is of more use.
