Hey guys, thought I would share these guys with you since I've been putting it off for sooooo long. A friend of mine asked me a long time ago to paint up his Praetorian guard and gave me a box of the buggers. Well I've finally gotten around to finishing them off.

They aren't the most beautiful work but it did only take me 20 hours for the whole lot. They look good for the table top and they do the models enough justice that I am happy with the finish. I especially like the way the colour scheme worked out, the gold, white and black worked well.

Here's some pics:

And when I finished I realised the bases were almost the same as this guys:

These were finished off using the GW washes to add depth, I didn't do a lot of highlight to these, mainly to re-brighten the whites and the flesh tones (which are still a bit dark). But other than that I didn't spend hours getting them right - I just made sure they were finished and decent enough.

Considering it's a speed painting style, your white is very crisp. Excellent work!!

I think it looks very good very crisp, though did you come up with the paint scheme or your friend? think they loose some of the colonial style by the uniform being all one colour and white as well

Yeah I came up with the scheme. I don't really like the traditional colours - they are kinda crap. Blue pants, black boots, red jacket, khaki helmet, yellow trim. Gay.

I like the scheme I've used, even though it's more modern naval officer dress uniform than original colonial drill. I started trying the original colours and I just don't like them.

And they would've taken too long. And considering that I only got about $150 worth of secondhand orks in payment and I've spent about 50 hours on them, and I get about $25 and hour normally - well - they get a bargain

i really love ther color scheme. if you werent in such a rush i would add small details in red for a spot color. not like cloth areas, maybe like markings on the cloth. tthe red would give it so much more depth

You have yourself a very nice and solid force there. They look good as a whole, and that's what matters most when you are speed painting.

I find it kind of ironic that you speed painted some of the most rare models in 40k. However, they look great! Really Crisp.

Actually - the white was fairly easy. Undercoat first with white. Then give it a very very very thin wash of Badab Black - not straight from the tub but watered down about 5 parts water to 1 part wash - make sure there's not too much. Then go back over that once it's dry with slightly thinned white and re-highlight the panels. Pretty basic.
