I am working on a new ork list using a speed freaks style with 3 trukks, an open topped BW with rolla, and two battle wagons with killcannons and hard cases.

My question is, how useful really are hard cases for such things? 15 points is pretty salty in an ork list, and I suppose if I left one off I could jam a pack of shootas in there or something, not that I was planning to.

What do you guys think? Is Hard Case worth the points in a 3 Battlewagon, 3 trukk army?

My personal take is if your battlewagon is planning to serve as a main battle tank (usually the reason to give it a killcannon), I would say yes the hard case is worth it. The extra +1 on the damage table for being open top is just deadly. If your battlewagon is planning to ferry troops forward then no, open topped is better so the boyz can leap out and get to krumpin'.

Like benthos said.

I like using my battle wagons to get my boyz into combat as quickly as possible, so I never use 'ard tops. The best thing about an open wagon is that you can move 13" (red paint job) hop out 2", and then waaagh! and assault for an average of 24". This coupled with the fact a shoota mob can fire all of its guns from the vehicle (provided it only moved up to 7" with RPJ) makes the wagon an extremely versatile vehicle. If you play it right, and combined with support from other units, your army can possess a large threat range.
