I've just used Mongoose Publishing's OGL to release Tread-Head: Armored Combat in WW2 and thought the dakkaites might be interested:

Tread-Head: Armored Combat in WW2
Available now from WargameVault.com for $9.99.

This 41 page book has everything you need to field Tank Companies, new vehicles, and new weapons with Mongoose Publishing's Battlefield Evolution: World at War. Tread-Head: Armored Combat expands on this rules set with the addition of Bolt-On rules. These rules are simply added to the ones you already know. More options for more strategy.

Tread-head's critical damage system:
This allows players to determine the effects of well placed shots while maintaining fast-paced game play.

This rulebook contains 16 new vehicles and two new armylists:

US Medium Tank Company Armylist
German Panzerkompanie Armylist

M5A1 STUART LIGHT TANK
M26 PERSHING HEAVY TANK
M36 JACKSON TANK-DESTROYER
M36 SLUGGER TANK- DESTROYER
RECON JEEP
RECON M8 GREYHOUND ARMORED CAR
RECON M20 SCOUT CAR

JAGDPANZER VI JAGDTIGER
PANZERJÄGER TIGER (P) ELEFANT
SCOUT SDKFZ 222
SCOUT SDKFZ 234/1 8-RAD
SCOUT SDKFZ 234/2 8-RAD PUMA
SCOUT SDKFZ 234/3 8-RAD
SCOUT SDKFZ 234/4 8-RAD
SCOUT SDKFZ 250/9 NEU HALFTRACK
STURMGESCHÜTZ IV ASSAULT GUN

All vehicles fully compatible with the Battlefield Evolution: World at War
Rulebook and when used with Tread-Head army lists gain additional options.

* Optional stats to differentiate the German big guns
* Scout and Recon units allow vehicles to infiltrate
* New scenario for tanks: Behind Enemy Lines
* Field Platoons and Companies of Armor
* Force reactions with harassing vehicles
* Choose a leader with unique abilities
* Three new vehicle traits

Requires the use of Battlefield Evolution: World at War, available from Mongoose Publishing. “Battlefield Evolution” and the Battlefield Evolution logo are copyright 2008 Mongoose Publishing Ltd, and are used with permission. Battlefield Evolution rulebooks are available from Mongoose Publishing.

Look for Tread-Head: British and Soviet Armor to be released January 2009!

The new armor rules are just the charts but otherwise it is a great selection of vehicles and units. Well worth the money if you play WaW.

The German vehicle guide is also excellent and the cards are well done also (different publisher?).

tanker, thanks for the feedback! Check out the Armored Company armylists as well, many of the details are in there and with a rules set like Battlefield Evolution, a little change can make a big difference. Try using your scouts to infiltrate some Tank Destroyers or using a recon unit to force a key enemy unit to react before it wants to.

I like the roster of tanks etc. there. JAGDTIGERS?! hell yes. I'll pick this game up if I ever have time.

It's a great system, and easy to learn. I find that I want my units in 40k to have reactions after playing World at War.

Yes quite true. When I first saw the product description (not the one you posted here) I just had it in my head that the product would introduce things such as hit locations, penetration, traverse speeds, etc. All simply my own mis-reading of the description but I just wanted to make sure others did not make the same mistake. It is still a great add-on as is and probably makes more sense within the scope of WaW than what I had initially thought it was going to be. I do think it is a must-get for anyone interested in playing armor in WaW (as are your vehicle guides).

That's interesting tanker, because the one review I've had so far seems to have thought the same thing. Think there's anything in the description that I could change to make it more accurate? Is anything misleading? I've read and re-read it and can't see anything, but I might be too close to it.

After re-reading the description I think it was "Tread-Head's critical damage system allows players to determine the effects of well placed shots while maintaining fast-paced game play." combined with "Bolt-On rules" all wrapped up in my own preconceived notions. When I read all that I think shot location, gun/armor penetration, etc. And I think when an armor aficionado sees 'tread head' I think that is a signal to something more hardcore. That's just my take.

While the damage tables do indeed 'determine effects' they do not add anything to the details of fire leading to those effects (and they are also random and not concerned with shot direction, type of shot, etc). Thus maybe that is the preconceived notion not being fulfilled.

Oh, it's a Stuart tank not Stewart. And no M4A3E8?! Shame.

Also, for what it's worth, the WaW system reminds me, superficially at least, of the, now dead, 'Battleground: World War Two' system by Easy Eight (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/20441). You might want to look at those for some future ideas/inspiration.

Good information for me, thanks for sharing your impression. I did initially want to go into even more detail, but found that it didn't match with the feel and quickness of the World at War rules.

Yes, the Stewart typo and the E8 typo are being corrected asap. The E8 was mistakenly put in with the M4A3E2 Assault platoon rather than mentioned under the HVSS upgrade of the Medium platoon. Thank you for pointing them out though, I always value a critical eye.

I took a look at the Battleground: World War Two that you linked and it does have some similarities. I'll keep an eye out for a copy, thanks for the tip!

What they did a lot of I think you might be interested in is scenario and campaign packs.

Oh, I just found this site,
http://pacificskygames.com/default.aspx?man=45

Looks like you can still get most of the stuff as PDFs. Not cheap though considering they are PDFs of a dead system.
