Subject: Question on Necron Destroyers

So this weekend I played against a buddy of mine who dusted off his Necrons. Though we did run into one problem. With any of his models mounted on destroyer bodies he was saying they have a tough of 5(6). I see why he is saying this because they are classified as jetbikes and in the rule book under bikes it has the "Additional Protection" rule. Normal the extra protection is represented in the codex(ala Space Marine Biker tough is 4(5)). Since in the Necron codex it does not states this we decided to just do a roll off for it. We also check the FAQ and this proved to be useless.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

this is a good question RAW say they are in fact toughness 5(6), obviously that's not the intent of the rule but RAW trumps RAW

Actually the RAW only says that they 'move' as a Jetbike. I see nothing that says that they count as Jetbikes for any other purpose.

The only thing I could think of doing is e-mail GW but I know what they say doesn't hold up in tournies till it is in an FAQ. But it would help us answer it and use that as house rules until something is updated I guess. I'll ask GW "Are destroyers and Heavy Destroyers couldn't has jetbikes or infantry with a move like jetbike rule" and "if they are count as jetbikes do they benefit from the additional +1 to toughness as stated in the Addtional Protection Rule under bikes in the rule book". I'll let you know what I find out.

Actually you could play it as the rules state. They move like jetbikes and nothing more.

Yes I could and then argue with my friend all the time since he believes otherwise. So hmm...argue with friend...let GW clarify this for us and use it as a house rule... I'll take the ladder. Or else every time we play we will have to roll off to solve our argument. He isn't a tourny player so it is ok if he learns only house rules.

Well, there is a precedent of sorts in the book. If you look under the wargear section of the necron codex at the destroyer body, it states : "moves as if mounted on a jetbike and gets +1 Toughness. As a result he can't be instantly killed by weapons with Strength 10." Now, they're talking about the necron lord who starts with T5, the destroyer body makes him in this case T6, not T5(6), as the latter would make him vulnerable to instant death from S10 weapons. Destroyers are already on their destroyer body, it's already been figured in, so they are T5.

So yo'd rather roll over? Let your 'friend' back up his claims that when it only says that they move like a jetbike that they get any of the other benefits of jetbikes.

To me since it is a friendly game it doesn't matter to much. I wouldn't let someone try to pull this on me in a tourny. I think/know destroyers are infantry with a move like jetbike rule. He believes otherwise and I'm not a person to argue with something in a friendly game. Usually I just say whatever and have a roll off. I know GW will say they are infantry with a move like jetbike rule. Once I get that e-mail back I won't have to argue with my friend about this and we will just go about our ways. Everyone here is saying that is how they are but he wants something semi-official so nothing I can do about that. Was hoping he would just listen to what you guys had to say but I guess not.

If it doesn't matter, then why even ask? You're not doing him any favors by allowing him to play a rule wrong. Better to clear it up in a friendly game than when he's in the middle of a tournament.

Well I've tried clearing it up in a friendly game but he persisted that is how it was. I know the easy answer is "well don't play him" but can't really do that since he is a friend of mine. I ask, even though it doesn't matter to me in a friendly game, so he can get some clarification on the rule in question since I wasn't able to convince him.

It seems this has already been answered, this looks pretty definitive to me.

Exactly. I love my Destroyers and their Heavy brothers, but there's no need to make them tougher than they are already. T5 is a big help, just ask anyone who shoots at us with a bolter.

I would just like to resurrect this rules issue for 2 reasons. A) The INAT FAQ clearly states:
Necron Lords with a Destroyer Body are „Jetbikes‟ Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers are „Jetbikes‟ [clarification]
B) The New Army Builder Files indicate the additional protection rules in the rules summary.
I've sent these quires up to the INAT FAQ judges for a ruling. I really think there are numerous supports from RAW and FAQs that are supporting the additional protection ruling. Really hoping for that new Codex just so we don't have to deal with this ambiguous rule any longer.
