I'll be fielding Space Marines VS a CSM force. I am having a difficult time taking the CSM; it seems the feel no pain, invunerable saves etc.... are just slowly wearing on my forces when I throw them at him. I can rember him using Thousand suns, Socerers to Plague Marines and a Defiler. My Terminators didn't do too well when thrown into assault with him.

Looking for some General Guidelines.

Appreciated

Welcome to Dakka!

What army did you field?
Termies are good starting point as is a Librarian since his psychic hood can negate enemy powers.

I fielded 2 units Scouts with Sniper Rifles and Telion, 2 Dreadnoughts (one drop podded onto the Defiler), Master of Forge (tried conversion beamer) and a Thunderfire Cannon. One of his IC has the ability to move MY units 2d6. I've tried Termies against him in assault past but it seems all his saves: feel no pain and invunerable make it a beech to kill off anything of his.

Are there any good Shooty units against CSM, like Sternguard?

Assult terminators with stormshield-thunder hammers are very hard to handle for chaos, esp. if you run them in landraiders. Alot depends on what stuff he runs tho but that works against most CSM stuff.

Ok my advice is Librarian with termi armour (supporting a squad of termi's) give him gate and smite. He can nullify Lash of submission and be mobile enough to attack weak points with a nasty shooting attack

Twu units of Scouts and two Dreadnoughts are good starting point.
The MoF is not the best choice here and a Thunderfire Cannon is good vs hordes.
As said, try a Librarian with gate of infinity and avenger in terminator armor plus storm shield joining a large unit of Terminators.
Against Chaos, you need to stay back, weaken the enemy during its advance, and counter-strike.

Try
Captain with 10xMarine and pfist and missile
Chaplain(jumppack) with 10xAssualt Marine and
10xMarine and pfist and missile
2x Dread (setup as you feel fit)
Devo squad with 2xlascannon, 1xmissile, 1xplasmacannon
1xLandspeeder (typhoon)
1xLandspeeder (typhoon or 2xmultimelta's)
Predator with lascannon turret (no sponsons)
tellion with 7xscouts and snipers

This should be under the 2000pts limit, so you can use the rest of the points in extra wargear or squads etc. This is a rough guide I use and I've had good sucess with it against chaos. I find the mix of close combat squads and anti-tank weapons works well with this composit.
