Here's the situation.

4 meganobz (1 already wounded) charge a Leman Russ and blow it up. In the explosion the meganobz fail 1 save, so the wounded meganob is removed as a casualty.

The meganobz have now suffered 25% casualties in a single phase. They are not exempt from morale checks as they are not locked in combat. However, there is a note that casualties caused by close combat attacks do not count towards morale tests.

Am I reading this correctly that the meganobz do take the morale test, because they took 25% casualties, and those casualties were not directly caused by a close combat attack?

Wa. state

Yup, you caught the key phrase , Locked in combat.
As they took 25% or more casualties in a phase and were not locked in they take a morale check.

Who are all these people, and why aren't they dead?

I would agree with your assessment. The unit should take a morale check.

I agree with your conclusion, but not how you got there.

The rules for passengers state that the unit takes a certain number of wounds.

The rules for those outside of the vehicle, *each model* takes a hit. Just like going through dangerous terrain.
So unless the wounded Nob was the one that failed his save, you would have 2 wounded Nobs, instead of one dead one.

Fair enough coredump. I guess that's the same situation we run into with Flash Gitz and the Blasta upgrade.

I believe that's a controversial subject all of its own!
