Food for a Giant Fenrisian Wolf

Hello everyone, I’ve never played Tyranids, but recently I had an offer to buy some discount models – now I am asking for your guidance, if my list would be competitive and still fun to play against. My enemies will be mostly Eldar, Marines, Sisters and Necrons.

One Genestealer troop will infiltrate or outflank with Broodlord and other two are flexible either deployed or outflanking depending on the mission and opponent. Gaunts are more less just for screening and warriors are kept to provide fire support where most needed. I am considering to split that squad into two, but was advised to keep them at 5 or more. Lictor is kind of expensive for what he does but I expect that one re-roll per round should help sometimes, I hope you can re-roll even successful rolls.

I was also considering to remove Implant attack from close combat Carnifex, but then I realized he could come in handy against Avatar or Demon Prince.

Hi!

Personally, I like it a lot. I would like to see one of the two barbled strangler carnifexes be something else, personally... there are so many cool combinations of carnifex that you don't really need to repeat, unless it's all already assembled.

Looks balanced and fun to play to me, imho. I would Defintely keep the tyranid warriors together as one squad.

I like the gaunts. Another idea for your lictor is to bring him in near where the broodlord and company are wreaking havoc (hopefully) so that he won't be targetted so much on his own. I think it's worth it for the re-roll and the flexibility he gives you. He also might be able to take down a tank for you.

You've got everything tricked out pretty well (ext carapace on all your stealers, etc), I tend to minimize the upgrades to get more numbers, but I like the look you've got, and the list is very consistent. Bravo

some suggestions,

drop warp blast from the tyrant and take shadows in the warp instead as it gives you defense against psychic powers that you lack now. dual lash chaos would almost be an auto lose for you. plus it helps a ton vs. marines, and eldar. you will most likely seldom use warp blast as you will be running every turn to get into hth. 2d6 + 6 is very good for anti tank work with an average ap roll of 13 vs most tanks rear armor 10. also, ditch one set of scything talons for a bonesword and lashwhip. the sword gives you catalyst which is a fantastic power and the whip reduces enemy attacks witch again, helps a lot for survivability when you come up against inevitable power fists and what not. also, increase his In, ggive him implant attack, and take a third tyrant guard, giving them all lashwhips to further increase unit survivability. this becomes a very hard unit.

i like the broodlord myself, although a second tyrant would be better. if you do run him, he needs flesh hooks for assaulting units in cover, and implant attack as it makes him lethal vs. characters, and multi wound models like nob bikers.

I would also suggest making his genestealers a troop selection instead as they then become another scoring unit and are not slowed down by his lack of fleet.

cut the warrior unit in half, if you must take them. Warriors are not very good at all. I would recommend going light on their gear to save points for more effective troops.

consider forgoing extended carapace on the stealers, this way they are far cheaper and you can screen them with gaunts giving them the 4+ cover save. its debatable but in this way you can have more bodies, as you are really low on troops. again always take flesh hooks for stealers.

gaunts should have spinefists in my opinion, cheap and great. also, you dont need without number on all of them, one minimum sized squad without number to hold you own objective is fine, the other ones should be cheaper and more plentiful in number. two units of twelve are just easy kill points for your opponent.

absolutely keep the heavy gun fexes as they are your only ranged shooting units with a shot at taking out tanks. the way you have them set up they will have to be baby sat by the warriors or walk forward with the other boys who will be running every turn, possibly taking them out of synapse..

I like close combat fexes now too as with run they actually arent terrible, but still, a shooty fex is always a better buy.however, with yours, i would drop the flesh hooks as you will almost always go last, except against power fists, which are rarely in cover, they usually assault or are buried in large squads meaning they will swing anyway. also, implant attack is wasted here as str 10 means you will insta kill most everything, although it will be useful against toughness 6 opponents. consider giving him a crushing claw and lash whip instead of one set of scything talons as it gives him a large number of potential attacks, and reduces enemy attacks. think about giving him tusks for the same reason. lastly, give him toxic miasma to make most enemy units hit him on 4's instead of 3s.

hope that helps, and good luck!
