Hey all, I'll be fighting Bretonnians at around 2k on Sunday and I'd like some advice on how I could improve my list below. It currently comes to around 1830 points and contains all the models I currently own, so I will have to buy a few more to make it 2k. What do you think would be a good investment? My preferred buy would be more state troops to add as CC detachments or some shooty fast CAV.

General von Tann @189
Pistol, dawn armour, ench. shield, sword of Sigismund, sigil of Sigmar

- he'll support my main battle line with Ld and decent ASF. The sigil is probably not needed with damsels unlikely to have good LoS and such but since I planned the list as an all-comers list it will be of use at one point or the other. I'm open to suggestions though.

Hauptmann von Rundstedt @119
plate, shield, barded horse, sword of might, fire ring

- goes wherever needed, probably with vanilla knights

Oswald de Fries (priest) @129
heavy armour, shield, barded horse, sword of battle

- goes with the IC knights to provide hatred

Magister Thomas Lundt (Lvl 2 wizard) @130
rod of might (?) - the one that stores dice -

21 Spearmen @176
spear, shield, full cmd, standard of anti-panic

- I'd love to flesh this unit out some more so that casualties are less of an issue but alas, I lack the models and given the choice would rather employ more detachments.

9 halberdiers @54

23 Swordsmen @163
full cmd
7 crossbows @56

23 Swordsmen @163
full cmd
7 crossbows @56

15 handgunners @140
champion/marksman w/ repeater gun

5 Knights
@115

7 Knights of the IC @244
champion, standard bearer, standard of arcane warding

Cannon

Thoughts? Critique? Random insults?

Just a few thoughts,

the wizard should be a scroll caddy, 2 scrolls to give you some magic defense. Not really needed against Brets but giving the Priest the Icon of Magnus helps against any fear causing foes. Make the captain the BSB with meteoric armour and the sword of battle. I would put my general on a barded warhorse with a regular shield and give him the holy relic for a 1+/4+ save combo. You can put mounted characters into a ranked unit.

Drop the crossbows into their own unit and give the swordsmen a combat detachment of their own. 9 is the perfect size for detachments (3x3) cause its US not frontage that cancels ranks (Plus they're safe from being charged themselves)

Handgunner's champ is not really that useful, his +1 BS is cancelled by the -1 for multiple shots, I usually just run with a musician

Make both the knight units 6 strong, hard to manuever 7 wide units, drop the priest into the IC, give them the war banner rather than arcane warding as they should be in combat turn 2 or 3 reducing the need for magic resistance and they are a great hammer. Need a musician at least in the other unit

Infantry units would all be better at 25 strong but will work with 23 and a mounted character

Pistoliers are a great fast unit that can war machine hunt/ lone character hunt/ bait and flee or hit flanks, 6 with a musician is something like 120pts

hope that helps

As for tactics, try and isolate units, don't let them combine charges or your in trouble. If you can survive one round you should be good as you'll have help

concentrate your firepower on one unit at a time. Watch out for pegasus knights they are a pain

they charge farther then your knights but if you can deflect them with some bait and flee, or hit them in the flanks as they charge you'll take some of the steam out of their attack

not an easy fight but doable with the army you have
Good luck! Try lore of death and hope for the spell that makes your unit cause fear besides that their magic missile is effective the bigger one even more so

Since latest edition Brets aint that powerfull anymore and Empire is ownage since Anno Gunpowder

2 General things:

1) Make good use of detachements, they´re a pain in the butt vs Brets and make use of cannons if you can.
I´ve played Empire myself for a couple of years and except Skaven and sometimes Chaos I had not much trouble at all. Thanks to those nasty attachment rule.

2) I allways took musket over crossbow. There´s not much what´s better than pumping salvos into charging knights like those Brets.

You see the morbid horror flicker in my eyes But rest assured, Im gonna help to ease your pain.
I'm gonna put a thousand tiny implants in your brain
