Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.

We laughed - knowing that better men would come,

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

With a paintbrush! (It had to be said) Cheesy jokes aside, this is how I paint: Orks: Skin: knarloc green, then wash thraka green. Armour and stuff: mechrite red. Metal: boltgun metal, teeth and bones: denehb stone. Base: graveyard earth, all over wash of 50:50 badab black:devlan mud mix, then base side: graveyard earth. Tomb kings: Bones: denehb stone, metal: dwarf bronze, shields and stuff: ultramarines blue. Base:graveyard earth. All over wash: mix detailled above. Base side: graveyard earth. If it has skin (Gah! Not proper undead!) the skin is painted fortress grey with an ogryn flesh wash.

With a spraycan and trowel.
Prime/under and basecoat with spray.
Detail and touch-up with brush ( size 0 or 000)
Seal with spray (polycarbonate lacquer).
I can't be bothered painting well enough to enter GD, and TT is fine by me (if they look ok from 3-6 feet, sweet).

Definitely looked at this post and thought; with a paint brush.
I like to use washes on my projects, and alot of dry-brushing. Ive given wet blending a go, but I actually dont like the finished product, it looks too toned down.

Thanks!
Actually, I did paint on varnish (as opposed to physically dipping) with my WH chaos army. Not with my Fallen, though.
If you go into the gallery, you can Search by my name, and get all my images; then you can Zoom!
Here's the basic process for my Fallen Angels (For everyone other than the prince, sorcerer, daemons, termies and oblits; basically all the green guys):
Spray black primer.
Paint Dark Angels Green over all armor plate surfaces.
Drybrush Boltgun Metal on joints between armor, onto grills (like on helmet), onto belt and buckle, and on backpack contact surface. Then cleanup neighboring plates with DA Green again.
Line highlight armor plates with Snot Green
Paint deathwing shoulder pad (left) with Bestial Brown on wings, Mithril Silver on sword. Tin Bitz on pad edging. Overpaint Bestial Brown with Bleached Bone, then ink it with Chestnut Ink.
Right shoulder pad gets squad number- paint roman numeral first in Chaos Black, then narrower inside the black in Bleached Bone. Clean up the edges again with black.
If there are wings on the chestplate, they get painted the same as the wings on the shoulder pad. As do any skulls, scrollwork and/or purity seal parchments on the model. Actual Seal portion of purity seals is Scab Red, highlighted with Blood Red.
Right half of backpack is painted Tin Bitz instead of Dark Angels Green.
Right half of backpack and any other Tin Bitz details (such as edging of left shoulder pad; some models may get other Tin Bitz spots, such as if they have a round kneepad) get line highlighted in Brazen Brass.
Bottom of boots and treads are painted black.
Eyes are painted Shining Gold.
Note: I start painting with the legs and torso glued together first, then glue on the head and backpack and paint them, then the arms (with shoulderpads) and weapons last.

Cadians: Spray Black. Paint fabric Desert Yellow. Paint chest armour, gun body, knee pads, and pads on gloves Catachan Green. Paint Bleached Bone over fabric. I don't know why I bother with the DY, to be honest. Paint shoulder plates and helmet Lightning Bolt Blue, then Hideous Blue. Paint anything metal with Boltgun Metal, then Drybrush with Chainmail. Paint Visor with Mithril Silver or Chainmail. I can't decide which I like better. Highlight green things with Camo Green. Highlight blue armour with mix of Skull White and Hideous Blue. Highlight boots, gloves and other leather artifacts with Codex Grey. Wash fabric with Devlan Mud. Paint any tubes Deadly Nightshade, and then highlight with a mix of DN and Lightning Bolt Blue. Paint the tip of the gun barrel Blood Red. Done.

All spray primed Duplicolor Black. All highlighting is done by mixing in increasing amounts of the highlight color in successive layers.
Space marines: Undercoat Earth, Basecoat Khaki, Wash Earth, Highlight- Bone; Trim- Red Gore, Highlight Blood Red
CSM
Emperor's Children A- Underoat Lich Purple, Basecoat Warlock Purple, Highlight Tentacle Pink, Wash Warlock Purple, Lich Purple. Trim- Undercoat Tinny Tin, Basecoat Broze, Highlight gold (sover on rivets). Wash brown.
Emperor's Children B- Pink areas- Undercoat Warlock Purple, Basecoat Tentacle Pink, Highlight Pale Flesh Wash Warlock Purple. Black Areas- Highight Dark Grey to Cold Grey to Light Grey. Wash Dark Grey, Black.
Vampire Counts have too many different types of models to do a quick once over. The zombies were done very different from skeletons who, in turn, are quite different from the ghouls, etc.
Chaos Mortals- See Emperor's Children B. Black with Pink Edging. Turquoise used for at least one "symbol" (skull, star, etc.) per model.

Sit down with 10 or so models. Half black half white.
Work it out.
Some models will take minutes to get an OK result. Others
will take hours. Hoard/large armies have a different approach to 'elite' armies.
Paint all models with the most appropriate scheme.

Once I've decided on my colors, I'll prepare and prime the models accordingly. If the color scheme is bright I'll use a white primer, if it's dark, I use black...Grey for anything else.
I'll usually paint the whole model then in the main color, then the secondary then trims, details etc. I'm not a huge fan of washes/highlighting on the normal troops only very special characters. If I were to do a wash it'd go on after the main color.

If I actually listed all of the paints/ratios I used to paint my miniatures, someone would probably die of boredom. I have a six shade minimum for all of my minis (unless I'm using stippling). And that's only at the most basic level.
Though they are worth mentioning, even if only because they kind of break the mold a bit (for any already existant CSM, at least).
Word Bearers - A generic Dark Red/Almost Burgundy for the Ceramite, though I use NMM for any metallic areas. As my Word Bearers have Parchment floating around them (Some of them, at least. Give me a break, I'm working on it), the bleached bone color offsets the red and gray nicely, without being too...intrusive, I guess you could say.
Death Guard - Mostly Rust (Created by stippling dark flesh, vermin brown, snakebite leather, and golden yellow progressively on top of each other), offset slightly by some grungy yellow-brown/orange-brown ceramite, and a little bit of black thrown in for good measure. Kind of monotone, but that's alright. It looks good.
Emperor's Children - This is probably my favorite paintjob for any of my armies. I start with a purple basecoat, and gradually stipple on progressively lighter shades of pink until it looks like a really dirty pastel pink. Any traditionally "metal" areas are painted black, as well as stippled into the pink a little bit along any edges. Black "veins" run through the pink, and anything black on the model is run over once with some glosscoat. It kind of makes it look like the black is gradually eating away at the color. I love it. It makes the Emperor's children look so evil, while still retaining their true color. Funny how it's the easiest paintjob I have to do (Not much shading involved).
Thousand Sons - Though it starts out a fairly generic Thousand Sons army (sans metallics), my Thousand Sons have cracks running through their armor. I paint a glowing blue effect into these cracks, and it makes it look like their souls are bleeding out through their armor (though this technique takes FOREVER to get right). I've been toying around with making the glow yellow, but so far I can't get the right color, and it doesn't look as good at all.
Tyranids - I used the Monarch Butterfly as the basis for the Chitin plates (Shut up), and then any other areas are painted black with select areas fading into bleached bone.
Witch Hunters - NMM Dark Bronze with black cloth, white hair, and off-white detailing (Any inquisition symbols or fleur de lys, for example).

I've started to hit a bit of a theme. My most recent Space Marines were green, black and bone (just black and bone on vets). My current eldar are brown and green, with a little bronze and yellow. My upcoming imperial guard are green and off-white, with brownishness (Brettonian Man-at-arms based).
I'm tempted to stick with the scheme, for some reason.

I have a nid army and I paint them like this:
basecoat chaos black
carapace terracotta and then red gore
talons and teeth skull white and then bleached bone.
and for the pipes in there arms billious green
eventually it got boring to paint all my gaunts the same way and I stopped with nids and began with orks becoese these offered enough variation.
