So for 10 pts you loose some range and gain +1 armor on the sides and rear, +2 Str +1 Ap, and the option to get plasma cannons.

What I'm I missing here? the main Disadvantage of it is the loss of range, but with a basiliks picking up the slack in that department that hardly seems like to much of a handicap. Not only that, I can't think of the last time I played on anything larger than a 4' X 6' table.

Also What is the general opinion on the plasma cannons for 20 pts, I can see how they could make up for the lack of range, and also still pose a threat if the main weapon is destroyed, but under the current rule set I am not sure its worth the points.

I *love* my LRD. It is an absolute beast on the table

And yes, I give it Las/Plas. When you're firing at a *small* unit of hard targets, it is much better to fire las/plas as you can score many more wounds.

I almost always run LRBT, LRD, Bassie. It's an oldie, but a goodie imo. Yes there are games where I would I would swap out the Bassie for a LRBT, but then there are games where the Bassie is the MVP. So over all, it is still a great setup.

But would I drop my LRBT for a second LRD? I like my LRBT, i find that there are many situations where a hull down LRBT can really punish armies all game (and is more accurate than the bassie) while my LRD and HH drive into the enemy.

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

Also remember the back armor of 11 on the demolisher prevents it from being damaged by assaulting infantry without high strength or power fists. It's probably the single best frontline tank in the game.

better suited to city fight imo. Ram through a building and make a hole in the terrain/where the unit was.

Why not melta sponsons and a lascannon so you can tank hunt with it?

Oklahoma City, Ok.

i think the problem with the melta sponsons is that
unless your in a city fight type terrain or going after
dropping troops, they're too short ranged.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

I agree with alarmingrick, unless you want versatility.

However, versatility in a unit is a fail in my book. Sure it sounds great on paper "Hey my unit can kill that, and that, and that," but the sheer amount of choices makes it harder to use.

The LRD is there to kill with templates, I'd go with HB, and plas side sponsons

I like Las/Plas, but a more efficient loadout is las/heavy bolter. I keep running mine las/plas for nostalgia reasons, though.

But yes, I also love my LRD.

any of you guys think it'd be nice to just mush all the LRBT variants into options for a plain vanilla Russ?

140pts
comes with battle cannon or demolisher turret (maybe option for vanquisher/exicutioner)
hull LC @ 15 or HB @ 5
sponson meltas @ 30, plas @ 20, flamers/HB @ 10
upgrade S/R armor by 1, 10 pts
Veteran gunner (BS 4) for 15?

Just to cut down on how many named variants and open it up for more customization.

any thoughts?

2000 pts SoB.
2000 pts Crimson Fists (WIP)

I agree, they should do something Like the tyranid codex, and have a crazy amount of options for us to choose.

A Demolisher is frightening. That AP2 isn't just a 1 difference in AP; against 2+ save targets (with no invulnerable), that 1 difference results in a 600% increase in lethality, because the AP system in 40k is broken as hell.

The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"

Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

My mantra is that every IG army should have one. More is better, but by having at least one with support of other LRBT's keeps the 2+ armor save guys honest.
