I was thinking about this the other day. The Lesser daemons in the Chaos space marine codex to not occupy Force organization. So, could it be a viable tactic to take an obscenely large amount of 5 man squads? I mean, it would basically auto lose kill points, but if you presented your opponent with more squads than he had the ability to kill, it could work out very well for you in objective games. Has anyone tried this?

It really isn't a good strategy. Lesser Daemons aren't good to begin with. Small squads of them aren't exactly hard to kill. And, you have to deep strike them in, so you have to make sure you have enough icons for them to come in on, so there's a real balance between having enough icons (and therefore, not as many daemons) or having too few icons, more daemons, but risk losing them altogether if your opponent manages to kill the icons.

I wonder if even in kill points, lots of daemons wouldn't be so bad.

Picture this: A squad of 10 marines fires into a 6 or 7-strong daemon squad, killing them down to 1 or 2 left. What you've lost is just some daemons, while the actual damaging squads in your army still live.

From now on, whenever he wants to get the kill point, he'll have to devote firepower he wants to use elsewhere. Using 10 marines to kill 1 daemon hurts.

Then again, if he shoots all your "real" units first, lessening your kill power, then just spends the last couple turns really cashing in the kill points on what's left, he'll do very well.

The only way I would use lesser d's is if you had a massive unit (20) of them sit on an objective after they came in. Even more beneficial if the objective was in cover to give the daemons a cover save. Other than that I think they are uttery worthless except for fluff reasons.

You could use the multiple small units angle and start bringing in as many five daemon squads as possible.

at the end of the day they are still T4 with a 5+ save for 13pts. that wont last long in combat, especially not with 'No Retreat'. demons and CSM had an argument and parted ways when the latest CSM 'dex came out.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

It would be a bit nicer if the lesser daemon units could be used to satisfy the two mandatory troop choices so that a person could try spamming chosen, obliterators, raptors and lesser daemons.

In a way, this is possible. You could field two 5 man CSM's for minimal points and then just use lesser daemons as your scoring units.
