It doesn't matter what our opinion is. What matters is if you are achieving with your models what you want to achieve.

well currently i have this really strange idea

Id create an army or just a squad not sure but currnetly working on just a squad called the 7 sons of grand father nurgle it would be 7 thousand sons that betrayed tzeencth to nurgle. or i could just make it a squad of chosen.

almost done painting my test model
will upload some pics but will be crappy cuz off my cell phone.

oh and if i do a whole amry like that i would call it the thousand sons of grandfather nurgle

Some questions,

Do you use Primer?

Is that flock on the base?

If so, did you put blood red on the white flock?

How many colors did you use?

An answer, and I'm not trying to be an ass, but judging by that picture no. No one is a great painter right out of the gate though. And there are plenty of techniques to work on to improve. Right now for you though, I'd suggest some smaller brushes and working on cleaner lines and finer detail.

Happy painting though and I'm sure your next round of pics will be twice as good. And if you use the same model remember to strip it before you start over.

I did follow the link. The same I still feel holds true. Your plague marine looks good and shows an effective splattering of color, very nurgly. But I suggest using better lighting so we can really see everything for what it's worth.

Can't really say I'm a fan. What I see if a riot of fairly earthy colors that kind of blend together. Not really sure the Nurgle/Tzeentch blend works either. Also, snow and blood can be hard to pull off and mixing into questionable painting doesn't really help.

My suggestion is to focus on the basic painting first. Nail the basics and then add snow and/or blood.

no, if this is your typical work you are not good. Sorry, you asked.

Hi

I agree - full marks for accessing Dakka during school!

;-)

In regards to the painting, consider first carrying out the basic techniques.

On the table top, a basic, clear paint job will work quite well. Also, having a common colour theme through your army will also benefit how your army looks together (yes - even for Chaos!)

Marines are perfect for basic paint jobs as they are covered in armour all over.

My suggestions to try (pick different colours depending upon taste):

1. Prime with a chaos black undercoat (spray is perfect);

2. Basecoat with Mechrite (spelling?) red (foundation) - paint the whole figure, but you do not want the paint to pool - wipe off the excess paint on the side of the pot. When you paint, let the brush leave the deep crevices black;

3. Add scab red mixed with chaos black and add clean water to make a wash. Should have the consistency of watery milk - try it out on paper first - lines on an A4 sheet should still be quite visible underneath where the wash has gone on. Ensure that you cover the entire model evenly, also ensuring that you don't let huge pools of wash form;

4. When it is completely dry, drybrush on blood red. Make sure you do it lightly first - I usually drybrush onto the back of my left thumb to make sure it is leaving the right amount of paint behind;

5. Paint the eyes Mordain blue (foundation) with an enchanted blue highlight. If you slip up, cover up the slips with some of the original Mechrite red;

6. Paint the gun and some sections of the backpack chaos black;

7. Paint these items when dry with boltgun metal using the same technique as with the basecoat, leaving black deep parts;

8. Highlight the metal parts with a chainmail drybrush - once dry put a wash of bestial brown over them if you want an aged look;

9. Put some PVA on the base and put some sand on there - once dry flick any off odd parts with a brush and/or a hobby knife;

10. Paint the sand and the rim bestial brown;

11. When dry, do a heavy drybrush of snakebite leather;

12. When dry, do a light drybrush of bleached bone;

13. Add PVA in a couple of spots on the base and add some flock - snow or grass.

I think if you follow these basic steps, you can end up with a model that can look quite striking on the tabletop.

Remember that if you are painting to game with, you want people to be able to enjoy the figure from about 3-4' away. Paint to a basic standard that can reach that and then you can move onto other cool techniques.

HTH

Cheers

Tim
