I may have the oppurtunity to aquire 20 furies or cheap. The only reason Im asking if this is a waste of time or not is because I already have 5 flesh hounds and 5 seekers of slaanesh. The last fast attack spot was going to be screamers for their melta-fun abilities, but I cant help but wonder about the furies....

Anyone use them? Are they worth a thought or not really?

Thanks!

No Daemon army I faced so far had Furies.
They are fast and can tie up a shooty enemy unit. So they are worth thinking about them. They need to be fielded in larger squads for increased impact.

Furies are junk.

Why?

Because for the same points you're spending on them, I'd rather have any other daemon.

Here's what some people who couldn't make it here today think:

Squig_herder wrote:If you are talking about normal CSM not chaos daemons then i have and they are great but if you talking about chaos deaons then no and i have no idea.

cervidal wrote:In the CSM army lists, I see them used quite frequently. They make fantastic objective takers, being a farily inexpensive Troop unit, plus they do fairly well in assault, each effectively being an Assault Marine with a different save for far fewer points.

Locally, I see more folk take units of 10, but I'd be curious to see units of 20 to see just how nasty they could be on an assault.

eldramesha wrote:They are good for allowing Chaos non-troops to hold objectives by proxy.

flavius_infernus wrote:In units of 16+, lesser daemons can take on almost anything--terminators, giant ork mobs--as long as they get the charge, and just grind away until they win. But packs of 12 or less can't put out enough attacks to win assaults on their own.

Thanks to all the responses!

I was more interested in what they can do in a Daemons Army, not so much the Chaos Marines list.

Any others out there?

Furies suck. Any points spent on them are points that could be spent far more effectively somewhere else. And the models are butt-ugly as well.

I posted on another forum a point-by-point assessment of Furies vs. Flesh Hounds. It was like 4 paragraphs long, conclusively proved you should never ever deploy a fury instead of a Flesh Hound and was a complete waste of tube. Anyone who could read it and understand it could read and understand the Fury/Flesh Hound statlines. Consequently, I've come up with a punchier way to write it.

Flesh Hounds > Furies.

(The previous paragraph may have the phrase Seekers of Slaanesh substituted for Flesh Hounds without losing its meaning)

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

The furies just don't match up to any other unit in the fast attack so you'll never see them in my 40k demon list.

Which is why I would like to take this opportunity to offer to take them off your hands. I kind of want to use them as "summoned" storm boyz in my counts as Ork Lost and the Damned.

I dunno...spending more than min points on Core in a Daemons of Chaos list is triggering my "You're Doing It Wrong" sensor.

low initiative jump infantry without even assault grenades and no upgrades? The only good a box of Furies will do a 40k player is as a supply of wings for raptors.

If WHFB, they might be useful because flying is so much better in that game, but I remain skeptical.

Essentially they decided that people used furies, so that had to stop. They did make new flesh hound models, however, so they had to sell them. Result? Furies are made the worst possible choice in the history of Daemonhood and Flesh hounds made great. They were going to do this with seekers of Slaanesh but forgot to make any models.

There HBMC, I posted for you.

@Railguns:
That's hilarious as it almost mirrors my initial thoughts on that subject, so I'll second your oppinion. I'd even go so far as to establish a

seekers > flesh hounds > screamers > furies chain of reasoning.
A pity that my showcase offers #furies > #flesh hounds > #seekers obviously :-)

Back in the old days of real chaos glory (3rd/4th codex) those furies won me a couple of games against a guard playing friend of mine, with their current statline I'm not even sure they would performe well against guardsmen in cc (points wise).

Well, they make good models for using Lesser Daemons in a CSM army.

That's about it.
