Ebay auction for a new sealed tactical squad box and rhino apc has been won! Now I just wait for payment clearance, and shipping! Then, I finally officially own my first piece of 40k gear. I'll update here as I construct and put the guys together!

It's good that you started off with transports in mind I remember when I first started my marines list I had it in my mind to footslog the lot of them.
Turns out that doesn't work out too well
Just try not to over-tool your commander. That's the biggest mistake most 40k beginners seem to make.

Yeah, definately don't over tool characters... I remember the good old days when I had just started: Master crafted weapons! All my seargents will have 1 re-roll to hit with his bolt pistol! Yay! Artificer armor! Yay, now all my seargents have 2+ saves! Yay! Good times...

Hrm, I'm trying to keep my special characters well-equipped but simple at the same time.
I have a Chaplain with a jump pack, and I've given most of my seargents power fists or swords, depending on if they are assault or tactical respectively.

Prep and cleaning is the key, regardless of your actual painting abilities. Really bad mould lines stand out on a crappy paint job and make it look worse than it really is and really good painting can't really hide bad prep.

Well, I'm not ordering the paint until tomorrow, and I'm going today to a few stores for my prep/modelling supplies, so I think I'm going to end up having quite a few days of prep time before I actually have the paint to start off. I'm getting a full kit of tools to cut and file down any mold lines, and if I can find some green stuff in my local games and hobby shop, I'm totally getting some to make some more dynamic poses.
