I painted this for a friends army... he said he wanted something totally different. Not being one to care about fluff, I came up with this.

yep. totally works.

I've seen red orks before, as part of a daemon posessed ork army.
I guess as there are red fungi it could work from a fluff perspective.

But the clothing and armour need more work.

As far as the armor, I kept it simple for my friends sake, seeing how he isn't good at painting and he wanted it to be easy, since he will be painting the rest.

If you want red orks, then your whole army should be one of contrasts... so another, eye hurting color would do well

I always thought orks should be red. There are forms of red algae, so red fungus isn't a stretch. Different planets w/ a variety of atmospheric conditions...it could happen.

Hmm. unless I have suddenly gone color blind, he is actually orange. Sorry folks.... Ill get a pic with better color up tomorrow.

Looks good to me. I saw a guy with a death skulls army and all his orks were BLUE! Go for the different colors. Shame I got so many of all my orks done otherwise i'de consider it.

I like it. something you won't see everyday...and orange orcs will take your opponets mind off what he is doing and on to wondering about the color scheme great idea!

still looks red, if you are going for an orange look you will need to highlight in yellow.

yea i still complain when i see people paint orks red (as mine are also red) but i figure hell 99% of all ork armies are green so i cant get to upset

Though the skin is very well done, the rest of the model definetly leaves something to be desired.

First of all, try highlighting the pants more than you have. They simply look one color.

And I don't really know where to go with the metallics...but they just don't look right to me. Too sloppy, even for wear and tear.

put some blue on him, a light blue.. maybe oh his face or some blue tattoos and you will have some good contrast

Yeah, blue would be good. I like the red but the clothing and armour do need something more.

I was considering doing a chaos ork army once with a similar scheme: Red Skin, yellow eyes and blue warpaint. the miniature came out very well.

Interesting. What I really want to see, though, is an ork army painted in human skin tones. That would just be maddening.
