So I was at my local hobby shop, getting some supplies, and I went to pick up some glue. I remembered someone strongly reccomending Zap-A-Gap, so I saw what I thought was a tube of it, and picked it up. Now I'm sitting here, realizing that in my haste, I picked up the wrong thing. It's labeled Zap-A-Gap-A-Goo II (I'm assuming it's the same company), and it says it's an all purpose adhesive that remains flexible... so... am I out of my $5, or will this stuff be effective for putting some models together? I just worry about the phrase "stays flexible". It'd be horrible if it stuck my little bolters to their hands, but they could wiggle around like soft plastic or rubber.
Anyone firmiliar with this produce?

Zap-A-Gap is really good.. however I have no idea what you purchased.
Could always cut two pieces of a sprue off and glue them together and see how much "wiggle potential" they have. .. .

Zap-A-Gap-A-Goo? I think a hole has been torn in the fabric of the universe and you've fallen into JohnWhangDD's world. That sounds like something that might exist there.
Seriously though, I have no idea what the heck that is.

If it is anything like either Shoe Goo or UHU (or anything
in between) it will be rubbish for glueing actual models.
This kind of stuff will probably be fine for some scenery projects or even for sticking the coins/washers into your bases.
Have an experiment with the checkerplate plasticard you are planning to use on your bases. If the base doesn't flex then something with a large contact point like that shouldn't flex when glued to it.
Essentially, find out what it is good at doing and use it for that! I have easily over a dozen glue bottles in my 'hobby box' with varying nozzle sizes and properties and I use them accordingly.
I think it's worth having just for the tube. It looks mad as toast and has a funny name!

I think I'm going to dig around for an old single piece model or something in my stash of old stuff. I'll cut off an arm or leg, or maybe all the limbs, and test out what happens if I glue it back on with the stuff.

Also, I did a quick experiment with it last night. My priming set up is an old shoe box, that has a sliding panel that fits in the bottom. The panel has a bunch of soda bottle caps glued on to it, that way the thing is very portable, I can lightly glue the bases to the soda caps, run downstairs with everything firmly in place, spray one side fully, and run back inside. Let that side dry a bit, let the paint and models go back to room temperature, flip the base around, run outside, and spray the other side. I would just keep gluing or pinning the bases down on to the cardboard, but then when I pull them off, I have the cardboard/paper excess that looks nasty and is a pain to get off. With gluing them on to plastic caps, I just cut if off, and shave a bit of excess glue and it works nicely.
So last night, I made up a new base panel, grabbed some soda bottle caps and tried the zap-a-dap-a-goo for gluing them down to the cardboard. They are indeed VERY attatched to the cardboard, and not wigging at all, so this stuff MAY just work.

Alright! In my search, all I found was a lego man. I decided this could work nicely, so I took out my clippers and clipped off every single attachment peg on him. Now he has a similar make-up to a fresh-off-the-sprue figure. I'm going to try and glue him together like a normal figure, using a quarter or maybe another bottle cap as a base, and I'll update later with the success or unsuccess.

Alright, so I've glued the little lego man together. he's standing up right now, and there were no real problems with the glue so far. The biggest problems were A.) it sometimes it leaves small strands of glue when you pull the container away after applying some... this is fine, after it all dries, I can cut any excess off just like flash and mold lines.
B.) Clean up is a bit of a lengthy mess. The cap the tube comes with is a normal tooth paste tube cap, as in, it doesn't fit over the little conical application tube (which works very nice btw) so I had to clean out all of the glue inside the cone and put the normal cap back on. That lead to a lot of wasted glue, and I think it would work much better if I manage to scrape together a way to cover the tube with the cone still on. Gonna wait for a couple hours and see how the actual glue is holding up on the lego man.

Been less than two and a half hours, and the glue seems to be very solid. No wiggling, on solid. I think this stuff is going to work out perfectly. Tomorrow at some point, I'll test out what happens if I "accidentally" drop him a few times, and then if that works, I'll see just how hard I have to throw it at a wall in order to break the glue.

Lego Man is now primed! I don't know how well I did on that, as this was my first time priming also. It was a bit rough as I had to do it in short bursts, as it's RATHER cold outside, and I have no indoor area to spray cancer-inducing paints. Anyway, I won't be able to post ANY pictures for a very very long time... but I'm taking pictures with my camera, and at Alex's request, I will take a video of me testing the paint stability when I do get around to that.
I'm taking a walk down to the hobby shop today anyway (about 45 minute walk... *sigh*) and I'm going to pick up some gap filling fairly low cure time super glue, now that I know what I'm looking for better. The Zap-a-crap will probably just be a backup for some other kinds of assembling.

Alright, this priming is pretty beautiful. I can see every little recess in the back of his legs, I can see where the pieces met, and all the tiny little ridges in his burglar's hat. So, I think this all-together was a successful experiment. Now I just need to film the attempt at breaking him!

SOooooo... I lied about the video, mostly because it was very anti-climactic. A simple drop on the floor... that was just fine. A hearty throw against a wall, and base and arm both went flying off.
Anyway, I bought some CA Gap Filling quick curing glue, and I also got a drill vice and some paper clips.
