I started working on a new weapon today. It will basically be a big drill which can either be mounted on the arms of larger units such as those armoured big guys Troll Forged wants to be making or Ogryn sized stuff. Normal infantry will be carrying this thing like a special/heavy weapon of a sorts. Drilling into enemy soldiers, fortifications, hulls and so on. A pistol like weapon is mounted on the bottom of this this to take care of enemies once the user has drilled through a hull of a ship filled with foes.

I also put the second generation of weapons up, two sniper rifle like guns, two more chunky automatic weapons and a third...yeah I don't know what that is, just a rifle I guess!

For those who may have forgotten these, these are the older designs (first generation):

I'm kinda surprised no one replied to this. I think they look like they're off to a good start. Some are better than others. I think you need some extra detail sculpted on if you really want to make a strong impression. Little details like patterns on the grips or ejection ports and flash surpressors for the more conventional weapons would really make them shine.

That would indeed be pretty awesome if I had (1)putty and (2)sculpting skills, right now I have neither. :(

However the ideas you mentioned might come to use for the second generation stuff if I do get my hands on those things.

I second aka-mythos on the detailing: skulls and the like, connecting rods/tubes, gap filling.. It's what makes a good idea into a great weapon.

Sculpting basic stuff and gap filling isn't all that hard; other then that it's just a case of finding the right bitz to add; broken earphones for example are a good source of a) cabling and b) interesting techy stuff.

Also, a lick of paint does wonders .

They do indeed look to be off to a very good start. The 2 sniper rifles look real nice. The drill with the underslung gun is a very creative piece of work. The automatics are kinda weird looking, maybe something for orks? and the last rifle i have no idea what it could be. Keep up the god work.

Have the same idea about them. I feel they may need a handle to the side, like a stengun.

@CommissarKhaine: I've been thinking about a handle on the side, like a stengun, but the problem is that I would need a cool drill for that or make the gun multi-part since it would give some complications with casting it.

The two sniper rifles are las based weapons which use batteries. I like the idea of them looking a bit different to reflect the fact that many types are being produced. I want to keep the skulls and such out since I want to keep the options open of not using them in 40k which seems to put skulls on everything.

Do note that I'm only going to work on the newer designs, the first generation I made will stay the way they are (and probably in a drawer somewhat until I can recycle them for something else).

@Billdozer: The automatics are indeed quite crude, the idea was that these were sort of "home made" weapons, or something along those lines which would be used by mutants, gangers and such. The drill still needs some work.

Does anybody know where I could get cheap modelling putty?

just try any ol' hobby lobby for modelling putty... i think that sculpy works just fine (as long as it is the kind that air dries) not sure on a price however....

Try adding details, like radiator fins or handgrips.
as for the "crude home made" guns, try using something to simulate cloth wrapped around them, or exposed inner workings. also ridiculous attachments, like aux grenade launchers or flashlights are good too.

I have taken a stab at scratchbuilding weapons... built an assualt cannon for my AOBR terminators.

To those who have built scratch built weapons, please show them! I'm very curious what kind of methods you guys used!
