I was inspired by a thread about necrons in the news and rumours forum and ive decided to make a necron wraith adorned with some form of ripped robes (Black) and weilding a scythe (not quite sure how im going to do the scythe).
But my question for the noble dakkites reading this is how should i paint them?
i have toyed with many ideas but currently the best seem to be bone (to emphise the whole reaper thing) or sandstone (the highlight the egyptian style the necrons have or finally the depressing boltgun metal look that the necron currently have (it seems blasphemy to ask about necron painting without including the classic).
once its done i will post it on here

you could always use the scythe from the typhus mini. not sure where you would buy that in bitz anymore. or im sure any army in fantasy would have good scythes

If you go with the egyptian, you should definantly include golds, reds, and blues. basically think of thousand sons.

Personally, I think that a "glow in the dark" looking necron army would be brutal. Nothing says resurection like glowy green skeletons. glowy green Mechanical skeletons, at that!

I've suggested this before.

Maybe you could have a sandstone color blending into a metallic color on a different part of the model? It would give them a very awesome "metallic chameleon" vibe. Maybe just have the metallics blending up the scythe blade or something.

Though I do think that a glow in the dark green necron army would look awesome, if slightly silly.

You could paint it to look like white ceramic (to get the skeletal look). You mix the color with gloss varnish to get the ceramic look IIRC.

Craft stores usually have some sort of Glow-In-The-Dark paint. Check their "kid's" section.

Ceramics, i've always liked a Necron army done well in ceramics

I suppose I should know how to do glow in the dark, since I suggested it.

I guess just a really pale green fading into a more vibrant one. Make sure to add reflections and highlights on the base and everthing else to make it have that glowing effect.

Not an expert at painting... so maybe try it on a crappy model first

Fade it!

Best looking Wraith (Any mini line) I've seen was a PP Pistol Wraith. Some guy painted it up with the barrel materializing (painted true colors) ...and faded it into a spirit green effect (Think Ghost Army for LOTR). It was a terrific effect and made the model look as it was in mid-transition. I would guess this would be doable with an action scythe pose as well.

That would look pretty cool - yeah!

Well, be careful as if you symmetrically divide the model it will look like it's cut in half. Try doing an odd amount...like the scythe/arms are true color as the Wraith is becoming solid...while the upper arms/body are still faded into spirit. Something like this;
