So in another thread someone suggested highlighting metallic paints.

How can you Highlight the metallics on these models.

It is shining gold, and the picture was taken with a flash.

Oh, here and there.

I think they look great! Don't change a thing! They look perfect!

And I have no idea how to highlight metals. Sorry for not being much help.

Thanks, but in general is really the question... I don't think I have found anything online to tell me how to do it :(

You can add a little mithril silver to the mix

hmm... but how would that look on such a thin strip. Because of how "enlarged" this model looks in the pic it is very deceiving. The straps and bands are only a mm or 2 thick : /

You reverse highlight or artificially highlight. These are the terms I use at least;

Reverse highlight; Paint it the brightest color you plan to use, wash it down to where you want.

Artificially highlight; Paint a thin strip of the highlight metal along the border. You really aren't drybrushing highlighting, but moreso painting an artificial highlight. Looks bad on large areas, looks good on small areas.

Personally, I believe the secret to metals (Not talking about NMM, as I'm not a fan of NMM) is the washes. My typical gold is;

Bronze
Heavy drybrush Vallejo Old Gold
Wash Ogryn Flesh (Or a deep rich brown wash)
Drybrush Old Gold/Gold
Glaze Ogryn Flesh
Drybrush Gold/silver (70/30 mix) along edges only.

You can highlight it by simply mixing some white, ofc i doesnt shine but still looks great

That would probably be your best bet on this mini IMO, but pick your spot. Put the mini under a lamp to see where to light hits naturally, then select where to highlight from within those areas.

Whatever works for you, but I prefer a simple approach, again using gold as the target colour :

Undercoat with Calthan Brown,
Basecoat with Burnished Gold,
Brown wash ( Dark enough to suit your taste )
Highlight with Mithril Silver.

Simple, but seems to work well enough for me, thanks. In general, I find Mithril Silver is a good final highlight for pretty much any metallic.

I use washes a lot too. I'll basecoat with VMC Brass, wash brown, then highlight with gold
