I am trying to make a competitive build for 'ard boyz next year with an army that isnt as cookie-cutter or point-and-click as CSM or Orks.

HQ

Shas'o- MP, positional relay, shield generator, iridium armour, HW multi-tracker, 2x shield drones, stim. injector, HW DC, bonding knife
----retinue-2x shas'vre- MP, PR, multi tracker, targetting array, HW DC, shield drone

Elites

Shas'vre- TL FB, multi-tracker, targetting array
-----shas'ui-TL FB, multi-tracker

Shas'vre-TL FB, multi-tracker, tagetting array
-----shas'ui-TL FB, multi-tacker

Troops

20x kroot-12x hounds, shaper
20x kroot-12x hounds, shaper
12x fire warriors-shas'ui,bonding knife
-----devilfish-sensor spines, flechette discharger
12x fire warriors-shas'ui,bonding knife
-----devilfish-sensor spines, flechette discharger

Fast Attack

8x pathfinders
-----devilfish-sensor spines, flechette discharger, SMS
8x pathfinders
-----devilfish-sensor spines, flechette discharger, SMS

Heavy Support

hammerhead-railgun,SMS,D-pod, Multi-tracker
hammerhead-railgun,SMS,D-pod, Multi-tracker
hammerhead-railgun,SMS,D-pod, Multi-tracker

and i still have 39 pts left over, what to get??

main idea is to use positional relay to bring kroot in late game to jump on objectices or pull em in early game to slaughter things threatening my tanks and/or commander.
pathfinder devilfishes have SMS to lure them into shooting those devilfishes and not the ones loaded with scoring units. I will use marker lights on rhinos popping smoke and them smoke them with either my crisis team or railheads to force them to footslog it against my shooting. and since i have multi-tracker my hammerheads can zip around and still fire their railguns or move 6" and fire everything. I can use crisis teams to kill any tanks that get in the kroots way. notice all devilfishes have flechette discharger since they are going to be moving forward and will be charged by certain armies (we all know i mean orks).

and still undecided on what to get for the 39 points?

4000 pts, 4000pts, 4000pts, 2000pts,
1500pts, (daemons)2000pts, 4500pts, 3170pts, 1500pts, 2500pts, 1850pts

MEQ & TEQ laugh at this list.

Multi-trakers allows a battlesuit to fire two weps a turn. Your battlsuits dont have two different weps. Try fielding those firewarriors as they come on foot & make use of those 30'' rifles ^ take another pathfinder squad. Sniperdrones are your friend.

Nice idea about the landgrab kroot. Shaper & 6+ armour save aint worth it. More kroot

ok i understand why MEQ would laugh but why TEQ? hammerhead drops templates on TEQ and uses pathfinders to ignore their cover saves. and i misread multitracker so thank you for pointing it out.

but since you siad MEQ would laugh at me what do you think i should do? maybe drop crisis teams with FB and replace with PR?

you sound confused. TEQ=terminator equivalents. IE Terminators, Meganobz, Broadsides, etc. stuff with 2+ saves.

Also, every tank should come with a multitracker and disruption pod. Even those gun drone/burst cannon devilfish. Who doesn't like moving 12" and still firing all 5 of your S5 AP5 shots? Even the Warfish should have them, move 6" fire 7 shots, or move 12 and fire 4.

I agree about the shaper. He's pretty useless, which is a shame. Shapers should have been included as IC in the HQ section, as CC monsters. Or at the very least should have provided some REAL benefit to kroot.

I like your shield'o commander, but he and his retinue are entirely too expensive for what they do. a shield'o does his best work buried in a kroot squad, absorbing a lot of the anti-infantry fire they face on his and his drones' 2+ armour saves.

I actually don't like the SMS on the hammerheads. I'm willing to trade 6" range for 2 more shots and 10 points, personally. The only reason I would consider SMS would be that 24" keeps you out of melta range, but when am I going to need to shoot my SMS at a squad with a melta? The secondary guns on a hammerhead are only there to gun down a couple more orks/gaunts a turn, otherwise you should be on the opposite side of the board from whatever you're shooting, abusing your 72" range

edit: oh, and MEQs. deep striking plasma/fusion teams will shame any squad it catches in the open, hands down. I personally like to just throw ludicrous amounts of S5 into marines, and watch him fail saves. after all, a tactical squad buried in cover will take 48 plasma/melta shots to kill, or 90 pulse rifle shots. Which is easier to do? I'd say the pulse rifles. 2 smartfish full of fire warriors can do 62 shots in 1 turn (24 from FW squad 1, 24 from FW squad 2, 7 from 'fish 1, 7 from 'fish 2). Put the other 28 shots in on the way in, and it's game.

Hq battlesuits in kroot squads eh? Good idea!

Sniper drones deal with MEQ's like cake deals with fat/hungry people.. Or is it the other way around... as for TEQ's... plasma weaponary? Plinking with railguns? Massed pulse rifle shots.

A near-neat swap pointwise for 3 teams of sniper drones for a tooled up railhead. Nearish.

in all honesty, I've yet to try 3 teams of sniper drones. They're markerlight hogs (BS3 and rely on having cover saves removed), but each has 1 built in so that's not SO bad. They're really easy kill points, but also make great speed bumps against assaulty armies (watch a 30 boy mob waste a charge on a single sniper drone team, then countercharge with your kroot. hilarity ensues.)

I have a tough time relying on AP weaponry these days, sadly. Everyone and their dog has some sort of cover save, and high AP weapons often rely on a couple really powerful shots to do the job. The nice metagame aspect of massed pulse fire against marines is that there is absolutely nothing he can do to increase his survivability: that 3+ save is the best he'll ever get, and I'm coming in not only knowing that, but planning for it.

oh some people use TEQ for "tau' equivilant (hence AP4 is awesome)

and actually on how many shots it takes to down a marine squad just get 4 markerlight hits on them and then your firewarriors and devilfish can easily finish them off.

and i didnt think of burst caannons on hammerheads that is a good point i think ill take them instead freeing up another 30 pts.

my devilfish have sensor spines so they can go thru terrain and get a cover save even within 12" and sthey will be forward moving elements so they need that extra boost.

i think ill take multi-tracker on alll the devilfishes.

and i wnat my commander alive if at all possible so he and his retinue have long range weapons so they can still support without staying in the main fight.

maybe drop his retinue for more firewarriors or plasma crisis suits?

and TEQ are often slow without transports so all it takes is a battlewagon or landraider immobilized to make them useless since i can shoot hin to death with other stuff.

i think i'll toss the shapers also freeing up another 42 points.

what do you guys think?

i have 71 points left over now and am willing to switchup crisis teams and/or retinue
