I made a kitbash in a spur of a moment, waiting for my dear old dad to pick me up for xmas - I tought some of you might be interested and maybe even get an urge to convert a Slann army!

Nothing too complicated, just a mix of a Skink and a Firewarrior with a few extra bitz.
I used nothing but knife and plastic glue so it is a rough proto at best, but with additional work and some greenstuff I think it would fit rather nicely...actually, to my eyes its allready fitting rather well, tough the knees and neck would require some gs work and maybe some sort of codpiece (...for a lizard in space, lol) would be apropriate too.

Man I miss the hobby btw I would really like to do allkinds of nifty projects atm but my school is taking its toll (artschool so I kinda get my artistic "fix" by other means than minis atm)

I'm a bit of a purist myself and prefer my slann to look more froggy. I reckon you could do wonders by trimming off the crest and tail like my paint edited pic:

Great idea...You might want to wait and see what cool plastic bits will be coming out with the
new releases. One thing I think you could do easy is to use a new plastic Stegadon as a Great Knarloc.

I like the army Idea- slan as tau. It's a great conversion. Cant help with the other units b/c I dont know enough about slann.

Really like what you've done with this. Nice and simple, but it seems to fit nicely with the parts you've used. I would definitely throw a shoulder pad on an arm (or both!).

I did a concept sketch earlier this year around the idea of Space Lizz'Ards mixed with Orky influence instead of Tau:

That is amazing, I was thinking of doing that for my Imperial Guard, counts as conscripts or something...
Anywho, what are the lower legs? I know the knees are skink, but I still can't figure out the boots...

@ Axiom : Yeah, I know what ya mean with froggy slann - I originally was about to cut the fin off, but when I took the head from the skink I got it off clean enough without harming the fin and tought that it actually looked pretty balanced with it - I might change that at a later stage since this is afterall just a prototype. About the tails tough, those I want to keep. I know its not traditional but the thing is ive actually made a few bloodbowl frog-skinks from old and new skinks and shaving off the tail is allways a bit of a pain, especially with the new skink model. Ontop of that, I cut the legs of the tau and skink from the knees and made them match, but basicly if the slann didnt have a tail, there would be no point of doing that as they could use the standard issue tau pants - but then it wouldnt be much of a conversion, atleast not in my eyes.

@ The Grundel : I think thats pretty common tought among gamers. Atleast at my neck of the woods, when the tau was about to be launched the first time alot of gamers were buzzing over them as "the slann" - Alot of people claim that it was actually gw that started the "gossip mill" and when I saw the concept scetches of different tau humanoid faces I felt that it probably was so.
Normally when I do converted armies I tend to change everything alot, like for instance my demiurg or squats if you prefer, Ive made different enough that without telling what is what, not that many people would guess what army book am I using - then again if I show to you how my demiurg autocannon looks like, then all the autocannons in the army are going to look exactly the same.
Ramblings aside, with this project im taking the "lazy" aspect and only modify the actual humanoids - namely because I really like the battlesuit and vehicle designs of the Tau.

@ Genoside07 and LunaHound : I heard that the lizardmen are getting alot of new cool stuff, so you are probably right - and Im indeed not in a hurry, since I really cant spare that much time atm for miniatures ( !) About the great knarloc, and the kroot in general - I have no plans yet - if I do an army of slann I might make up a "skink only" version first and then when I got that done I might start to fiddle with kroots and what to use as what. I think saurus = kroot pretty easily and that great knarloc idea is really sweet - Also, I am digging this kroot ox/kroxy thing but I would prolly leave the skink from the conversion and just make these ogryn-like kroxigors. I think a big lizard with a huge gun could count as a kroot ox any day

@ Grey_Death : I actually remember seeing that scetch before, tough back then I tought that saurus would be hard to make into a scifi soldier (mixing a skink with tau didnt cross my mind untill I accidentally converted this prototype) but maybe as a feral kind of scifi character like an ork or a kroot would make sense...and would require less dramatic conversionwork.
Btw, I cant remember who it was, but somebody at Dakka made some nice lizards in space from some scifi-monkeys in space that were demonkeyfied and lizardified (what imba words! :O) with some clever use of some other manufacturers crocodile parts - those conversions looked a bit hard to make, but the endresults were extremely nice.

@ Zaku350 : Yeah, they could count as ig conscripts too pretty easily, tough Ive been thinking of doing what I did with this tau-skink marriage with an imperial guardsman and a plastic ungor - looking at the size of both, idd say they would mix up well. IG used to have beastmen back in the day and what better use for a loyal xeno than to be cannonfodder for the emperors cannonfodder?
About the legs, they are tau knee-down and skink knee-up.

Really nice that this conversion got some good feedback and even nicer to see that alot of you gave really nice original ideas to back it up in the future thanks alot fellas!

DUDE!! I thought had hallucinated Dino-Riders! They rule! I particularly love the brontosaurus with pockets for peopel along the side.

Though I had the tricerotops.

Really like it, but I think the feet need changing. It looks like a lizard with hooves. Give it more lizardy feet and it'll be perfect.

About the feet tough - why I didnt make any modding to the tau "hooves" is because when I was doing the initial chopping, I looked hard and long at the feet. The skink model originally had these chicken type feet and it was prettymuch running on its toes. The foot was small enough to fit inside the tau hoof (I did not actually make a tau hoof hollow and test if it would fit the skins foot, no, but I am good at visualizing stuff) and since the angles of the tau feet were a match with the skinks feet, I didnt see any reason to convert it any further - I mean, if you look at standard issue army boot, you really cant see nothing about the human foot except the rough form. The tau hoof for me atleast, serves as a fairly working armyboot for a lizard in space.
I did do alot of greenstuff details (there is no wip pictures about it, but if you look at the unpainted pics and then the painted ones you can see what I did) and some of it blends in the miniature quite well - Im not superhappy with the "crotch plate", even tough I think it fits the rest of the armour, it still looks selfmade to my eye (meaning I need to hone on my execution) but for instance I made a few fingers for the arm holding the gun (the thumb and the finger underneath it) and the wrinkly skin on his neck, which both succeeded well in my own book.

Also, I am happy about the scheme, but what do you think?
I wanted to have a striking look, so I went with picking up opposite colours - yellow and purple. I wanted it to underline his bad intentions (yes. the tau-lizards say "for the greater BAD!") but after I did the skin I tought making the armour all purple would be too much. I played around with a tought of making the armour have a purple camo pattern, but I discarded the idea for being too childish. I also wanted to add some 80´s feel to it, and looking at some old pictures of toys/cartoons from the 80´s I realized that many bad guys that had purple or violet on them also had gray. GRAY! how didnt I think of that! So, I made most of the army gray and added purple as an effect rather than make it the most underlined colour in the scheme. I think it fits well.
