I never think of Table quarters until we start adding up points. As a consequence I very rarely own table quarters.

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.

I think of it as one more reason to take fast cav units or cheap fast units. If I need reassurance to take one more, it's a factor(or at least that's what I tell myself). I know some people will take 2 dirt cheap units to leave in their half of the table butI've only ever thought about about that in a gobbo army.
Other than that about turn 4 I'll start thinking about whether bringing a unit back into the fight from wherever they've ended up (will be more useful than securing/denying table quarter.

Well the hope is that you plan out what you want, and therefor what your going to make your opponent do, from turn 1. I've always felt the game should go like this
Deployment.....
1st turn opening moves and counter thrust
2nd turn maybe some CC
3rd turn definite CC that you've hopefully dictated into advantageous to your army. Begin moving units to table quarters while not exposing anything
4rth Turn finish off any CC or prepare to hold off the last push
5th turn Finish any CC, table quarters should be contested or claimed by now. Use fast cav and/or flyers as needed to contest

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

ideally army construction is when i think about taking table quarters and denying VPs
i even worry about how many banners i take and under what circumstances is it okay to lose them

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste |

4th to 5th turns.
Start thinking about wether it is better to plow on and lose more models/kill more of the enemy vs sitting back and staying alive/capturing quadrants.
For example in design of chaos warriors my first selection is always 2 chaos hound units.
They are deployed first in the back corners and do nothing all game. x2 30 point units for x2 100 point quadrants. The rest of the army should end up on my opponent's side of the board.

I struggle with this one myself. I play HE; I can't afford to have two units of Ellyrion Reavers sit back the whole game--135-145 points for a 5 man regiment, for 100 VP? not worth it. Nothing I have is cheap enough to just have sit around. So I've got to pay attention to table quarters during play, because my units need to be put to use in other ways before claiming quarters.
