Well.. i have hit a dead end in the construction of my SM force. I simply dont have enough melta guns to make the required number of combi meltas. Do anyone have a smart way of making combi meltas from from anything easy to optain?

yeah, i just made one last week, my camera is out of commision, but use a flamer, trim the top half off the end, round it up, change the bolter muzzle to the bottom, and put the melta muzzle on top, easy conversion, and looks great

There's a link somewhere in here for a fantastic conversion. I'll see if I can find it for you.

If that fails you can always buy the Combi-Melta bits that come with the Space Marine Commander.

Edit: Okay, I can't find the thread and Combi-Melta bits seem to be in extreme demand right now. I'm pretty sure the tutorial that the thread was about is on Bolter and Chainsword. Maybe look there?

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I tried three different tactics to making combi-meltas when I was making my DA vet squad.

1)
Bits used: melta gun, bolt pistol
chopped the bolt pistol off at clip level. Cut off all the bits from the top of the meltagun, filed it flat, filed bottom of bp+clip flat, glued them onto the top as shown.

This is probably the best looking combimelta I have

2)
bits used: meltagun, boltgun, scope bit

This one was hard, doesn't look that great, and was the most difficult. I won't recommend it

3) bits used: boltgun (sm), boltgun (csm), meltagun barrel.

Similar to one, but carved top off a boltgun instead. Threw the CSM bolter ontop, cut out the barrel and stuck on the meltagun barrel. It had to be pinned to stay in place how I wanted it.

The downside is that I've now run out of meltaguns lol. The best meltagun I did was made using a combimelta from a terminator, and a DA veteran bolter. I would hardly call it scratchbuilt though, but here it is for comparison.

I built a bunch for my army. I needed a LOT for my Sternguard.

I used tube and rod styrene. I think the low mounted bolter barrel looks dumb, so I mounted mine up high, with the Melta underneath.

I cut off the barrel, taking care to do it square and not mess it up. Then I filed down the front face so it's nice and flat. Reglued the barrel up high on the front face. Drilled out a hole underneath, fitted a short length of rod in there, then a length of tube over that, roughly in the style of a melta.

In some of the guns, I used rod of the same diameter of a barrel, but as long as the Melta barrel, which looks sorta cool.

I intend to paint on the Melta style vents, but I need to do a test paint yet to see if it works well.

You can buy metal meltaguns online.
They are not expensive from GWs mail order.

I use the exhausts from the COD manufactorum bits; they're a bit big (for my guardsmen anyway) but look pretty decent as a melta. I stuck them on cut-down flamer and changed the hose, but that's up to personal taste.
