I recently got back from an event at my FLGS with about 10 people. The Tourney was small but well run and with a blizzard brewing outside it was good to have heat! I decided to test out my Daemons of Chaos for the first time Saturday (these would be my first 3 games with them ever so i was quite nervous). The other armies present were warriors of chaos, lizards, skaven, ogres, bretts, empire, and dark elves...not a bad showing with armies across the board and players who were as green as grass to mant edition veterans. As we began to set up our armies for inspection I was a little worried that I only filled up a small part of my box while the chap next to me with skaven was on his second box. OOH! and one of the players mothers brought in a apple cobbler for us to have also...not bad for having a closely nit gaming community.

Game 1: Agaisnt the Bretonnians: had 3 blocks of 10 peasants with bows and steaks, 4 Pegasus knights with FC, 6 FC errant knights and a block of knights (7) with lady and BSB along with 7 grail knights and lady with lord...and the green knight...eww. Both ladies had beast lores. Board was a village that had 4 cottage/hotels diagonaly in each corner of the board and a forest in the corner, opponent was happy to have trees to come out of with green knight. Put most of units central with hounds and flamers on one side of building and seekers and 'big red' on the other side of another building (cottages broke board into 3 parts). pegasus was opposite hounds and errant knights opposite big red and seekers with knights and paesants in middle. He prayed and I went first. Mission was to kill everything with special points for certain things dead.

Summary: we both advanced cautiously as we both knew very little of each others armies and did some cat and mouse with magic doing little. Big red smashed into errant knights and killed 3 out of 6 (ward save my @$$) and passed his insability test while Pegasus knights founght and killed 2 flesh hounds with hounds doing 1 back and passing inability. Green knight showed up and ran across board to side tackle plague bearers along with a front charge from the kotr. This ended with me losing 2 models and him losing one with 5+ W and regen carying the day and banner of unholy victory. Bigred came behind 3 peasant units and lined up for rear charge of anything while grail knights charged and ate blood leters as 1 paesant unit charged the horrors with herald. Flamers charged in and clubbed 1 Pegasus while hounds killed another and knights killing one hound, knights lost and were run down by hounds while flamers ran to another building. seekers flank hit the kotr and big red scared 1 paesant unit off the board and horrors beat up another unit and ran it down. seekers killed one knight and plague beares killed 2 more with only taking one seeker and plague bearer in return. The knights broke and ran into big red=dead while green knight takes wound like undead. Opponent concedes as he doesn't want to draw it out. Poor french knights.
Massacre for me with full battle points. 20-5
Note: Plague bearers appear to be a great anvil unit, keep in front when fighting and use flank supporting charges.

Game 2: Against the Dark Elves: 2 blocks of so FC spears and 1 lvl 1 wizard, 9 cok FC with war banner and BSB hydra banner, 5 dark riders, 2 hydras and lord on dragon with caledors bane. Board was a volcanic area where the terrain never mattered in our game. My deployment went the same as the first time with all the units near each other this time as he deployed the 2 hydras, dark riders, and dragon on one side opposite big red with spears and knights opposite the block of guys. He takes first turn. Mission is to get across to other side of the board and you get extra VP...we ignore it and kill each other.

Summary: he moves everything forward and puts dragon just out of range of big red and tries to throw doombolt at hounds...MR 3 stops it cold and it goes to me. Seekers and big red charge and hit dark riders and a hydra respectively. Magic is awful as herald explodes while his unit lives and that's it. Big red eats hydra but crew stick around and deal him a wound with seekers whipping out dark riders and overrunning a little. Dragon charges big red and hydra bathes seekers in fire killing 4 while his units shuffle around some more. Big red throws out a challenge to lord on dragon and suffers no wounds from the dragon or lord but smotes dragon with all 7 hits and lord flees but hydra crew stick around AGAIN! COK charge plague bearers and kill 6 while loose 2 in return and my unit manages to hold with 2 losses to inability. Flesh hounds counter charge in the side and kill BSB and 1 knight while plague kill another and knights break and escape while flamers hit the side of a full spearmen unit (good idea at the time). Big red kills both crew and runs out into open. He gets hit by hydra and lord (who rallied earlier) who deal 3 wounds to him but he smotes hydra and lord and crew are gone. Blood letters charge rallied knights and...get owned, lose 5 to insabitlity leaving champion standing there alone and flamers dealing 8 wounds to DE spears...2 save and i pull out a draw. Plague and fleshounds smack another spear unit silly and run it down along with big red eating knights but they kill last bloodletter. Game ends with him having nothing left on borad except for 2 dying spear units.
Massacre for me. 19-5
Note: I'm begging to tell that bloodletters aren't worth it unless they have a herald...or not at all, hound still PWN.

Game 3: Against the Skaven: warlord, chief BSB with warbanner, 2 warlocks, 3 clan rat blocks of 20ish w/ 2 ratling guns and flame thrower, 8 jezails, 3 night runners (5), 20 plague monks and 6 censar bearers. Board was a forest with an open are on all but my side, had rock quarry opposite it. My deployment was a little different this time as i did a refused flank and ignored the right half with Big red and seekers on far left behind forest and hounds, horrors, plague bearers (who contain the traitor), and blood letters in middle leaning left and flamers on right behind rocks. He deployed everything on a hill in his zone with 2 scouting units near me and plague rats of both types on the right with his traitor in a unit of night runners. He takes first turn. Mission is to get a traitor across to the other side of the board and you get extra VP along with more points for killing the other one.

Summary: He moves his scouts forwards to march block me and plague rats go at full speed towards me along with the night runners. His magic bounces off big red and the hounds and miscasts to hurt him. Shooting sees 2 hounds go down under jezail fire. I move everything up and put the blood letters and flamers towards the right side with the plague rats. The rest goes at full speed ahead with big red landing inside the forest with the 2 scouting rats and seekers on the side. Magic fails and its his turn again. One unit runs in terror and the other scoffs while the night runners with traitor run to my deployment zone. Magic sees noting occur and he shoots at big red but fails to wound him. My 2nd turn sees the fleeing scouts run away from the seekers charge and big red and hounds hitting a unit of rats with warlock on the hill. Magic fluffs and flamers kill 2 plague monks. The rat unit breaks and is run down with both of my khorne units hitting the jezails. He moves his plague rats up so that its charge or be charged with my flames and blood letters while his other units embrace tightly and other scouting unit moving up to shoot at the seekers. Then the jezails break and both units khorne units hold. My blood letters charge the monks and flamers charge the censer bearers. Flammers go poof against the poision rats and blood letters whiff loosing 4 of their number dead. Their magic and shooting grind down the plague bearers and bring the hounds to 2 dogs left. I fly big red behind several large units and the hounds line up with him. The plague bearers try and charge a unit for once and fall short but the horrors hang back and cast missles at the gun teams..and fail. The blood letters are whipped out and both plague rat units move to fac ethe center of the board. The combied charge of 3 clanrat units with general, bsb and warlock cant break the horrors or plague beaers but kill the traitor in the ranks while losing 8 daemons total out of the combat. Then big red runs in and ends the fight killing 7 rats and forcing them to run.. all are caught and killed but the horrors are wiped out by skaven general before dying. The game ends with seekers dying from poison throwing stars and big red fighting off a flank charge from a plague monk unit. I have Big Red, herald of nurgle with the FC left at the end while he has 5 night runners, injured warlock, 1/2 plague monks/full censers, night runners with traitor chilling in my board edge, and part of a clan rat unit. We drew in the end as big red is worth 1/4 of my army and had enough left at the end to balance.
Draw in my favor. 10-9
Note: Big Red is great as a hammer as he can kill "anything" as long as its small and/or hits a flank or rear. Daemon magic isn't as strong as I though it was.

I ended up taking first place with the highest score by 8 points! I've definately got come to the next one too! C&C welcome...please excuse grammar and spelling as i was writing on the fly

Don't ever compare your numbers of Daemons to Skaven. It's seriously not even
a consideration.

You had a very weak magic base in that army.

The slaaneshi spells are brutally annoying but nurgle is the most fun IMHO for knocking the enemy down so you can kill it.

Its rare here in tourneys in Oz to see a daemon list with less than 10 power dice (bound spells and horrors count as 1 dice)

sounds like a good tourni, i agree that bloodthirsters are maybe not the best greater daemon but they deffinatly have a very powerful psycoligal effect (excuse spelling)


i am multitalented, i can talk and anoy at the smae time
