Went over to the other side of the bay yesterday to play in a 1250 point RTT with my BA successor chapter, the Red Skulls. Here is my list:

Dante
Chaplain w. jump pack
4x DC w. jump packs

5x assault Marines w. jump packs & power fist
5 x assault Marines w. jump packs & power fist
10x tactical Marines w. las/plas & power fist - rhino

Baal predator w. HB sponsons
Baal predator w. HB sponsons

There were 12 people playing so full house. Interestedly enough I did not see any ork armies. There were a good number of Marine armies including another BA army, some Chaos including lash spam, eldar, dark eldar and Tau plus IG. So overall a very good mix.

My first mission was against the other BA army... Go figure! His list looked something like this:

Chaplain w. jump pack
6x DC w. jump packs

2x (10x tactical Marines w. heavy bolter) (both split into combat squads)
5x scouts w. heavy bolter & sniper rifles

Devastator squad w. 2x heavy bolter, missile launcher & lascannon
Predator w. autocannon turret & lascannon sponsons

Landspeeder w. HF & MM

The mission objective was to control the most table quarters (required scoring unit) but you could contest with any unit... contesting units had to be at least 50% of starting strength and contesting vehicles had to be mobile.

I won the roll to go first and setup to hit his left flank using my armor to shield my jump infantry. He seized the initiative though which made this a very tough mission for me! In hindsight I should have held everything in reserve since I could have come onto the table from two edges. The rhino was destroyed along with one of my predators right off the bat. I seriously was thinking this would be one of those games where the dice absolutely curse you. My first turn my tacticals came out from behind the wrecked rhino and rapid fired into a combat squad, dropping three. Dante and the squad of assault Marines he was leading were just able to charge the same squad and wipe them out.

2nd turn my opponent moves up his Chaplain and DC but I could see they would be short on charge range into Dante's unit. My opponent had very little AP2 guns so I was confident that Dante would survive this shooting phase, plus they were in some woods for the 4+ cover. My opponent had opted to keep his landspeeder in reserve and it came in this turn. My opponent focused most of his shooting on my tactical squad (also in cover) and on Dante's unit. I lost around three tactical Marines and two assault Marines. As predicted my opponent's HQ were just short of the charge.

My second turn the Baal remaining opened up on the scouts and killed one. The tactical squad rapid fired into another combat squad and brought them down to one Marine. My other assault squad was down behind the live Baal waiting to pounce on on of my opponent's other combat squads he was hoping to eventually run into my table quarter. Dante's unit plus my Chaplain and DC were both able to hit his Chaplain and DC on the charge, dropping two of his DC with the perdition pistol plus bolt pistols. His HQ were wiped out and I lost one DC. My opponent kept mixing up 4th edition rules with 5th edition and it was a pain... For instance he tried to claim frag grenades made all assaults simultaneous. Both of my units used their consolidation rolls to move up on his mini gun line and remain in cover.

Third turn my opponent shot just about everything into my tactical squad and brought it down to the last Marine with his lascannon. His one combat squad heading towards my table quarter moved up again. He also shot up the DC, dropping the last two, but both Dante, my Chaplain and the two remaining assault Marines weathered the shooting phase.

My turn my two assault Marines split off to hit one of his combat squads while Dante and my Chaplain moved into assault range of his mini gun line. My Baal finally aced his scouts and my full assault squad pounced on his combat squad over by my Baal. My lone tactical Marine dropped his speeder with the lascannon. Dante and my Chaplain hit one of his combat squads and his Devs, killing quite a few and breaking them both. My full assault squad hit his combat squad, broke them and they did not fall back far enough to regroup. My two assault Marines left from Dante's escort finished off the other combat squad.

Time was up. I really had to spend a lot of time with my opponent going over the rules in the rule book and that ate up a lot of game time. This is one of those guys I would rather not play again... He wasn't necessarily cheating but he didn't know the rules well and was constantly looking for any advantage.

I ended up with the win, holding two table quarters and contesting another. I really thought I would lose this one early on but eventually by the 2nd half of turn two things started to swing my way.

Next up... Dark eldar!

Next game was against a very good dark eldar player. He knew the rules very well and was a lot of fun to play. This mission was very interesting... you had three objective markers, one was worth 1 point, one was worth two points and the other worth three points. You had to place them outside your DZ and at least 10" apart. Their value was kept face down so only at the end of the game did you know what your opponent's were worth. You had to have a scoring unit sitting on top of them to keep the points and that also meant no enemy units within three inches. This was a challenging mission. I placed all my objectives just outside my DZ with the three point one in the center.

Dark eldar have always been a tough army for me with Blood Angels in general since I tend to play an assault style army. My opponent was fielding the following list:

Archon
6x Incubi w. Drezhur (YIKES!!!)
Heamoniculous w. scissor hands
Raider w. dual dark lance

Talos
Talos

10x Warriors w. blaster, splinter rifle & 2x dark lance, Heamoniculous w. scissor hands
Raider w. 2x dark lance

10x Warriors w. blaster, splinter rifle & 2x dark lance, Heamoniculous w. scissor hands
Raider w. 2x dark lance

10x Warriors w. blaster, splinter rifle & 2x dark lance

10x Warriors w. blaster, splinter rifle & 2x dark lance

I won the roll and decided to go second... so important for these objective grabbing missions! I deployed in a castle with a Baal on either side of the rhino, tacticals embarked and jump infantry behind the armor. The DE first turn of shooting was horrid and all his lances bounced off both my Baals. The Talos ran forward and the foot slogging Warriors fleeted. I wanted to take down the raider with the DE HQ... first shot from the lascannon dropped it. My Baals lined up on the other two raiders and they both were shot down in flames.

Turn 2 the DE HQ start hoofing it towards my gun line, both Talos hoof it again, one Warrior squad bunkers down so they can fire their dark lances, while the rest also hoof it. One Warrior squad makes it to a small bunker on the edge of the table not far from my DZ where my opponent had placed one of his objectives. Again the dark lances open up and again they all bounces off both my Baals. Haaaa! My turn both Baals pass their OCE test and hammer the DE HQ dropping most of the Incubi. The tacticals remained embarked and blast the DE HQ with red hot plasma rapid fire and a lascannon round... the Heamoniculous is blasted out of his tight leather pants.

Turn 3 the DE HQ are knocking on the door of my rhino literally! The Talos continue to hoof it toward my gun line while two squads of Warriors also continue to race in. A dark lance finally manages to shake one of my Baals... drat. One squad of Warriors decides to forgo the fleet and fires its blaster at my other Baal and misses. The DE HQ cannot damage the rhino. My turn the one active Baal OCEs again and takes down the Archon on a failed shadowfield save with an ass cannon round for the insta-kill while the heavy bolters take apart Drezhur. Dante and his assault Marines go after the Warriors in the bunker, will be outside charge range, but position themselves using the rhino as a screen to cut down on dark lance targeting. The Chaplain and the DC move off to intercept one Talos and another squad of fleeting Warriors coming in on my other flank.

Turn 4 the Warrior squad in the bunker blaze Dante and his boys, but only manage to kill two assault Marines. The Talos charges my rhino but does nothing. The Warrior squad comes through a building and fires into the other assault squad, taking down two then charge them. The Warriors then assault them and take the rest of them down. I now have two scoring units left, should be able to hold two of my objectives and contest one of his. It is going to be close and down to the wire! The Chaplain and his DC hit the Talos while the Baals take down the Warrior squad that had killed one of my assault squads. Dante and his assault Marines slam into the Warriors in the bunker for revenge and vaporize them. The Chaplain drops two wounds on the Talos and then the DC finish it off.

I have removed the DE units from contesting any of my objectives. My tacticals are positioned to hold two of my three objectives. My opponent also holds two of his objectives. We both flip over the objective we don't hold... mine is worth two points while his is worth three points. Another close photo finish for the Red Skulls.

Next round - Lash Spam!

The lash spam army looked something like this:

Prince w. MoS, wings, lash
Sorceror in terminator armor w. MoS, lash

5x terminators w. MoS, 2x combi-melta, power fist

6x Noise Marines w. blast master & sonic blasters
7x Nurgle Marines w. 2x meltagun/power fist - rhino
7x Nurgle Marines w. 2x meltagun/power fist - rhino

Oblit
Oblit

This game had the old triangular deployment zones from Cleanse II. Also on at the top of turn 3 you rolled to see if the victory conditions were decided by annilihation, capture and control, or the multiple objective markers. Since I was facing the dreaded lash spam I opted to start with my whole army in reserve.

More to come soon...

First turn I am completely off the board. We have objectives setup in case the game becomes either Capture and Control or multiple objectives. My opponent sets up with the Noise Marines sitting on his objective for Capture and Control, hiding the lash prince behind a tower (LOL), the two Nurgle rhinos on a flank and the sorceror with the terminators coming in behind the prince for support. There is one Oblit on either of his flanks. He pops smoke on both transports.

Second turn all of my units come in except for one Baal. I use a building to run up the rhino beside so all my jump infantry can come hidden from lash LOS. My rhino pops smoke. The one Baal gets its OCE and fires all guns into one Nurgle rhino, shaking it. His turn out pops the prince and his two rhinos pull up to mine, with the Nurgle Marines firing all four meltas into the rhino. Somehow the rhino survives but is immobilized. The sorceror and termies along with the two Oblits shuffle up a bit... but even with good rolls for run it is apparent they will not be able to reach my objective.

Third turn we roll for the mission victory conditions and up pops Capture and Control. Both Baals open up on the lash prince and vaporize it. My tacticals disembark rapid-firing into one squad of Nurgle Marines. Dante with one assault squad and Chaplain with DC simo-charge both Nurgle units, eradicating them from existence. I am now looking at a long way across the table to reach his one objective and will have to circumnavigate the terminators in the process. We decide to keep things simple and call it a draw.

I had to leave early but believe I came in second or third place.
