No pun intended.

Is there a good way to mimic algae (or something similar) without actually using clumps of flock?

Well, you can make loads of tiny little GS strings and bend them all over the place, although this is a pain and will never look as good as regular algae.

Painted sand is a good idea for that.
Use gloss varnish for that slimey look!

Hahah, don't we all wish?

Actually, the look I was more intending was not algae completely underwater, more algae as you would see it on the surface of a lake, or grown onto the side of something, if that's any help.

EDIT: Thank you, Alex. You just gave me a very good idea. Now I just hope it works.

Well, so much for that.

I tried mixing sand into greenstuff. While it looks good, it completely loses any ability to stick to anything.

Any other ideas? I don't know when I could go buy some flock, and I'd like to get this thing done before the 25th (algae required before a very long and arduous process).
