I thought I had this all figured out but ran into a number of hair raising events in my latest game.

1. A defiler charges a terminator that is joined by Belial, it has 5 attacks on this charge. It makes base contact with 1 termie, and Belial countercharges. Since I'm now in base contact with both models, can the defiler split his attacks between the two models?

2. Order of Charges and counter attacks. I have a unit of chaos space marines, they get charged by terminators. I wait, no other declared charges, I state I'm going to counter charge. I complete my counter charge, my opponent now.... wants to charge in with another unit of dark angel space marines (they were not in charge range before I counter charged).... is this legal, from reading the order of the phases in the beginning of the combat section, it appears to be, however, a page later in the BRB, it says that after all charges have been done, the defender does countercharges.

3. Dark Angels smoke launchers make all hits glancing or do they follow the regular rules like everyone else where it gives a 4+ cover save?

4. 2 combats going on in the same round. a troop on troop combat and another with my defiler and belial. If I fight the troop vs troop combat first, I win combat, my oppoent wants to use belial's leadership, but i say wait... what if my defiler kills belial... then during the morale phase part of combat your troops would lose his benefit. I thought you resolve all combats first, remove all dead models from all combats and then take checks... am I wrong?

1. Yes, p41. "Beginning of the combat" is defined as "before any model attacked" therefore after Defenders React moves.

2. No, p34. "After all assault moves have been made". Once you start making Defenders React moves, it's too late for the opponent to declare yet another charge. If he's dead keen to declare that charge, move your models back where they were before you started the Defenders React, and have him test to see if he's in charge range.

3. Don't know this one sorry. Whatever it says in the DA codex.

4. No, p34. Fight each combat in turn, resolving it before moving on to the next one. If you want to have a chance at knocking Belial out, you need to fight that combat first. You only get to choose the order of combats if it is your turn however.

As to #3 , The DA smoke launchers reduce a penetrating hit to a glancing hit.

Who are all these people, and why aren't they dead?
