I'm playing in an escalation league at my FLGS. Last night was a 750 pt. game against Demons. I'm making small talk with my opponent before the game and I say something like, "Demons are nasty--you guys always roll well because you sacrifice kittens before the game." My opponent says, "No no, you are the sacrifice." Nice one!
Sooo...
My list: 29 orks + Nob with Powerklaw x3; warboss with a powerklaw.
His list (I think): something called a skulltaker, an avatar of khorne, and four eight-strong units of bloodletters.
Mission: annihilation!! Deployment: Dawn of War
Orks went first, deployed first.
The Ork player (me) deployed cheekily. We were playing on a 4x4 table and I spread out my 91 models to cover my entire half of the table. He would have to deep-strike in font of me.
Turn 1
Orks: I spread out a little bit more.
Demons: the skulltaker badass thing comes on and scatters towards me; a unit of bloodletters scatters towards me, but a third scatters away.
Turn 2
Orks: I waaagh! and charge the skulltaker and a unit of bloodletters. Get a wound on the Skulltaker and kill about 3 bloodletters
Demons: terribly rolling on his reserves. Nothing arrives! He moves up his unengaged unit of bloodletters and charges, killing about 10 orks. The other two combats are pushes
Turn 3
Orks: One mob drops the skulltaker; another mob drops a unit of bloodletters. I'm losing the third CC but backup is coming
Demons: he gets one unit of bloodletters (ouch!). The one CC goes poorly for the orks. I'm below fearless and lose by 3 wounds. I roll a three and stay stuck in!
Turn 4
Orks: Mop up a unit of bloodletters and go after the remaining one. It's wiped.
Demons: his remaining unit of bloodletters and his herald of Khorne arrive.
Turn 5
Orks: I move towards his remaining two units
Demons: he charges a mob with his herald and bloodletters. The orks take out a few but one mob is gone.
The game continues
Turn 6
Orks: I have two mobs left. One is about 10 strong, the other 15. Between shooting and CC I manage to kill his remaining demons.
Reflection
I could not play Demons. I don't have the constitution to have the outcome of a game dependent on how well or crappy I roll for reserves! He got screwed not only on the arrival of the "B" half of his army but also on the initial scatter which put two of his units in assault range of me.
Orks in low-point battles are incredibly strong, but that could be my bias...
