I like to think this is a nicely balanced VC Army.

A Solid infantry base, Great Combat, decent but not over powering Magic Phase and fun to be had by me and my opponent.

I have to say i think you are wasting points on the size of the Graveguard.

They are tricky to put down, easily raised back. My flatmate runs blocks of 15, and they still kick major arse when it comes to combat.

Also, the Vampire with the Crown of the Damned is pretty combat mental. If thats the crown of lending WS, isn't that a little bit of a waste, as he can only use it when not in combat himself, and I'd be keen to get him swinging away as fast as possible, rather than lurking around for a dubious benefit....

yep that's the one. the list looks okay... but ,maybe finding the points for muscicians on your skellies would help, you never know when you'll need them and will be sorry when you do.

I like my twin 20 man GG units.
They are hard as nails and twice as hard to kill.

I need to convert 2 skeletons to be muso's first.
I refuse to use a skeleton with a horn. I mean how does he blow the thing.

good point... um i gues he uses an unearthly gust or a magot or some other thing crawling around inside of him does it... how does a brainless zombie play what ever instrument they have?

I agree with you completely so I made a funny skeletal drummer by taking the coffin lid shield and having him beat on it with the troll skull from the starter set.

You can always ask a dwarf player if they have extra musician bits from a thunderers box, its a drum ond if you painted it right it could look pretty cool

Your list has several things that make me scratch my head.

Your two units of dire wolves in really odd sizes are the first on my list. While technically as few as three wolves can give you a flank charge a unit of 7 and unit of 5 makes no sense to me. As does the doom wolf.

Your lord makes ok sense. I personally never put my general in harms way, but it can work if your extremely careful.

Next, two units of 20 grave guard. If this doesn't get a shoe thrown at you by your opponent I suppose your ok.

Next, three fell bats. This unit has one chance at doing it's job and that's a single fear check on your opponents war machine crew. That's slim odds. I always take units of at least 4. The reason being. I expect to lose combat by one on the first round. Dunno, just always seems to happen that way even with 6 attacks. (the last bat can almost never get into combat, but that's ok as you'll see) having lost a wound to combat and then lost combat by 1 the bat with a wound on it crumbles. If you only take three into combat your now outnumbered by most war machine crews. Or if you bring an extra bat your on an even footing. Being on an even footing after losing your first combat generally give you one more turn you can hold up a crew, even if you can't kill them off. This can be very important.

Lasty, you have four cairn wraiths but not a banshee. For shame. Banshee wail can singly handedly make your opponent cry like a little girl. Particularly vs other VC armies. Remember it can be fired while in combat, and at a unit other than the one your in combat with!

What you say Dr Phibes makes good sense.

The Wolves are easy.
the 5 wolf unit is a distraction or war machine hunter.
the 7 man unit is a throw away unit when dealing with a dragon army.
since no dragon lord will charge wolves. the wolves will mostly get the charge.
You issue a challenge with the doom wolf.
the dragon gets 6 res from over kill. you have 6 wolves left so have outnumber.
you crumble by 5. leaving the dragon facing 1 wolf till your next turn.

I believe a Vampire should be a fighting VAmpire.
So My Lord is a fighting vampire with a good save.
he can still cast nicely and support the army.

Well the bats are a problem. I want 4 but cant find the points.

This is the best config for the wraiths for me. the banshees never works for me.
And I often make mistakes with my wraiths and put them in the wrong place.
So I dont want them to be to expensive.

If your facing another VC army regularly I'll recommend again a Banshee. Best VC leadership is a 7 (discounting Black Coach and Special Characters) with mostly 3's and 5's. Rolling 2d6+1 and subtracting a 5 gets you some wonderful results. It really can make people cry. Particularly if they take blood knights, though you need a above average roll.

Just thinking about what a banshee would do to my poor skellies and GG. seriously thought i would not recomend 2 units of 20 GG, maybe if you dropp one and get a unit or two of black knights?, i have found that 2 units of 5 strong black knights are very deadly and will be a nice backup to your wolves

I faced a VC army with 2 small wraith units and a banshee in each.
The banshees were useless as my general was centerline and has Ld 10.

i am not a cavalry man. i prefer having large infantry units.
Those small cav units die to shooting to fast in my mind.

Hey. With all respect to the ther posters, I say stick with this. I love it. I am a HUGE fan of the infantry army and this one is great. I may even steal hunks of it. Every other vamp army I see has blood knights and stupid amounts of magic and such. This one is balanced and I think you are right, it would be fun to play against. There are a few rough edges to sand, but man, the main theme is on the money. And BTW, I would rather face two grave guard units then those thrice damned blood knights! Grrrr! Enough of them already!!

Big enough to have a fall down template. Yup, that's me!

Thanks Gobstomp420.

Funnily enough here in South Africa Blood knights are a rarity rather than the norm.
Due to the fact Of Bloodknight models being so expensive its really not worth it.

This Army is alot harder to play since the general is right out in front leading it.
But the army has some really heavy hitters and does major damage very easily.
