Ok, so all I'm hoping for on this is that nobody tells me my line work is too thick, lol!

Other than that, tear it apart!

Thanks,

It's not too thick at all. Somewhat cartoonish with the black lining here and there, but that's a style choice that's very apparent from first viewing.

There is an awful lot of grey-blue on the piece though, which makes it somewhat hard to follow what's going on. I would have gone with a different white shade (probably brown white) and used a different color for the robes.

With the flash (or just direct lighting), it's somewhat hard to tell how well the gold looks from these photos. I can see some shading but not much else unfortunately!

Good job overall though, just some minor color choice issues.

It's very nicely painted, but I agree that having the robe painted in the blueish gray color kind of makes the skin blend in.

The cloak should be bold in order to actually inspire the Tau since they need LoS in the game.

Some black glazes on the non-skin parts would add more depth, but I'm not sure that is the look you are seeking.

Very nice, though I do agree that his robe and the back of his cloak are far too close to his own skin color.

The style of the robe does stand out a lot, though, especially in the third picture. I'd say blackline the whole thing, just to see how it looks, but that's probably just me.

Yeah, that Sa'cea Sept color does tend to blend a bit, but I wasn't sure how to get the sept colors on there without blending together...

If I was to do it over, what color would you choose for the robe and cloak, and how could I work the shadow gray in without blending everything together?

Thanks,

Does the robe have to be grey? As far as I know the Ethereals are not part of any sept, so they could have any color they want. I'd suggest a light brown.

Nice paintjob btw.

Alternately, you could glaze a watered-down Asurmen Blue wash over it in several layers to add just a tad of depth to either the cloak or skin. It would add just enough definition to separate the Ethereal from his robes without dramatically changing the model as is.

EDIT: the model looks great by the way! Black/Brown/Gray- lining isn't my thing, but you made it work here. I like it!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Nicely done MegaDave. I don't really like the robe but the skin texture is nice

Yeah, I was about to say it reminded me of something, but I couldn't think what. It is like cel shaded graphics in a video game. I like it after getting used to it.

I do agree that I'd make his cloak more different from the skin. It could be nearly anything really, whatever looks good to you. A golden/yellow color might be good, or white.

Do Tau have pupils? I painted a few for a friend and just made their eyes black, like an insect or something.
