"Master strategist"
"Where this is a choice of mission based on strategy rating, an army containing Creed may always choose the mission. Similarly, they may either choose to win the dice roll for choice of table edge or request that the dice for the first tun be re-rolled"

Now, the first part is irrelevant, as we no longer do strategy rating missions. However, its the, "similarly, they may either choose to win..." part that gets me. If I can always choose table edge. I always get to go first.

Opinions? And please no "I think its not fair" or "I don't agree" or similar opinions. Please only well thought out, rules backed, answers. Keep the flames down.

By definition, the roll at the beginning of the game isn't a roll for table edge, it's a roll to see who goes first. Deployment zone selection is merely a byproduct.

So, you'd say that ursarkar does grant his "The player may request a re-roll of the dice for first turn", but doesn't allow the player to simple choose first turn.

This is what I was thinking, but the alternative is a bit juicier

Just want to point out that according to the Guard FAQ, Ursarkar Creed can only be taken in a Cadian army, which has some pretty harsh restrictions.

I've asked the exact same question twice in the last week in a couple different threads only to have the question completely ignored.

The ability references dicerolls that dont even happen anymore in 5th. Yet the codex is still tournament legal. Sure, you can handle it any way you please in casual games.

So what happens in a tournament? Is the ability even usable in 5th?

The re-roll yes, as it only says "similarly, ...."

It doesn't require the previous statement to be true (strategy ratings which don't happen) only its own (the roll for first turn, which still occurs).

The roll is definitely useable, the rest I guess not at this point, shame too.

As for getting your threads answered, the best way is a catchy title!

According to the codex a 'Cadian' army would be one that uses the Cadian doctrines or no doctrines at all.

Both of which I consider pretty harsh restrictions.
