So here's a quandry:

I'm presently modeling a Librarian on a Bike, for my Crimson Fists army that's slowly starting to come together. Still need to get a few things for it, but wanted to ask a quick question regarding painting.

I know the standard color for Librarians of most chapters is ultramarines blue, but I wanted to run a thought by everyone on the color scheme.

Should the bike be painted the same shade of lighter blue as his armor, or would it make sense to paint his bike the same darker shade of blue that is normally depicted? Obviously his gauntlets will be painted red, but I'm leaning towards painting the whole model the lighter shade of ultramarines blue, save his left shoulder where the chapter logo is, which will be painted the standard royal blue color of the rest of the army.

I'm almost finished converting him up, just have to fiddle with getting the backpack attached and I'll be ready to basecoat. Will try to get pictures of it up for inspection as soon as I can.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for any input.

The idea of painting the bike to match the librarian, as opposed to Chapter colours, certainly has merit. After all, commonly a Chaplain's bike would be painted black so this would seem to set the example IMO

That was my thought also, and why i was leaning towards painting the bike ultramarie blue as opposed to Regal blue like the rest of the army.

I'm actually using the chaplain bike box for the conversion. I clipped the chaplain helmet off the metal book bit that goes on the back of the bike and made a few other small additions as far as purity seals, and scrolls go. The librarian itself is almost all plastic, save for the shoulder pad, and has a smattering of greenstuff on the helmet to help complete the look. I'm actually rather proud of the psychic hood effect I've pulled off. Hopefully everyone will be suitably pleased with the result as well. I've never seen it done as-yet, so I may be way off base, however I think it looks pretty good, biases aside.

Thanks for the input Reaper6!

Have you considered just using the same regal blue armor for the entire model, Librarian and bike? While Librarians are typically depicted with ultra blue armor there's no real reason why all the Librarians in you army couldn't be in a darker blue armor.

for my Dark Angles I'm only doing the inserts to the shoulder pads for this type of model (ie including techmarines & apothecaries)

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Always happy to throw in an opinion, especially if it helps

Yeah Blue is the old school color scheme, like red for tech maraines and white for Apothacaries, black for chaplins. Over the last 5 years or so I have seen alot more where they are done (all but chaplins oddly enough) in their chapter colors with the "occupation" color in the sholder pad. Its pretty much up to the way you like them to look. I would go old school blue on the rider but chapter colored bike. You could dress up the wheel cover with a matchin color and librarian marking of some thing but mostely I would go chapter bike.

I like the idea of the lighter blue librarian on top of a chapter colour bike.

Sounds cool - don't see too many bike librarians!

Ok, never thought of that , sound good though, so I'd go with it.

In fact, I'm planning on rebuilding my old Homegrown chapter soon, also originally dark blue, so...

If you've no objection to my borrowing your idea, Vyper.

At least I'm playing fair and ASKING if he objects. He's a gamer and painter too so it's the polite and respectful thing to do.
