I too have a resolution to build an IG army, I'm inspired to do a blog to mirror JohnHwang's. We'll see how well we manage. I've had various IG stuff before, but I'm making a Death Korps army with a bundle of christmas goodies. I aim to concentrate on the guard themselves, but I will branch out into the other human armies for some daemon and witch hunter characters to break up the routine.

Infantry
Commissar (sword over shoulder variant)
Quartermaster and retinue
10 DKOK 'at ease'

Vehicles
Baneblade
3 x Leman Russ
2 x Sentinals

Immediate wishlist
More DKOK infantry units
A flamer team
A HQ unit

I also have my eye on the box of three Baslisks in my local shop. I would do something different with all three, one wouldn't be a Baslisk. I'd like a Valkerie should it appear, and perhaps the Shadowsword. I don't particularly like Chimera's so won't be getting any. I'd like a Gorgon, but that's serious money.

I'm off to a steady start with managable number of models. The Baneblade and Russes are built. The Russes have all undergone gun barrel extensions and I'm taking a day off tomorrow so hope to get them primered. I bought the three Russes together, effectively they work out at 3 for 2. I've wanted to do a Leman Russ for years but never got around to it. Now I have three. Oddly, they gave me 4 sprues of wheels, which is handy, because I've got something else that needs attention, and wheels.

Pictures to follow.

I really like the DKoK armies. The models are great and they look awesome when in huge quantities. So Im looking forward to this and hopefully regular updates.

Bassies are always great, but they're kind of an Apocalypse unit.

Since I'm also building a Krieg army and have fought with them in an Apocalypse battle, I'd say convert the Bainblade to as Shadowsword and a Russ to a Vanquisher if possible. Remember that with Krieg it's an either/or thing with them: Lots of anti-tank, or lots of anti-infantry, and nothing in the middle of the road.

Are you taking an IG army with Krieg figures or a true Krieg army? If it's a true krieg, then they can't take sentinels or bassies.

Huzzah!

Your Krieg selection is excellent. The Quartermaster's Retinue is surely some of the nicest models in the Range, if not the Campaign at large.

Good luck, looking forward to progress.

Quick visit, here's one of the Russes.

At least the barrel on that thing is long enough

Now get some paint on it.

To be frank, I think it's too long. It could also use some detail on the barrel.

The gun does look very big in that picture, I think it might be the angle in part.

The forgeworld stuff was a bit of an experiance, I can't think if they were more or less work than I imagined. The casting was very good, mostly there were no mould lines to clear up. Only a couple of poor casting and I managed to clear those up. The resin is very soft though, our house is cold and they were still soft, better not stand them under a hot light then!! Their arms went on ok, the gel superglue filled any gaps.

I don't know whether I should put their backpacks on, they're quite nice without.

Now if only the weather would clear up I could get some primer on.

It's not the angle - the barrels are over-length, even by 40k standards. At least, if you're not envisioning Basilisk-type ranges.

But, hey, it's your army. If you need long barrels, then go for it!

I think they'll look better when they're not bright white and standing out like a sore thumb. I think it was a reaction to the stumpy little thing that comes with the kit, my wife calls it s DKOK penis extension. Anyway, if we wanted realistic the barrel would be much narrower as well as shorter.

FWIW, I did precisely that for my Destroyer-styled (counts as) Russes, swapping for 1/4" O.D. barrels.

You measure range from the weapon itself, right?

In seriousness I thought you go from the commander's hatch, which is roughly central.

Big barrel making up for something? I doubt so. But anyway, any kind of rings/detail/rigging would fit well.

I'm liking those DK. There's nothing more satisfying (apart from having them painted) than just having them out, and being able to throw about ideas with them. I didn't put the backpacks on my Death Korps. I personally felt that:
a) I was doing some gorgeous sculpting a disservice.
b) They made the figures less "Eldritch". They are tall, wraith-like figures, beswept in their greatcoats. A great big pack (however aesthetically pleasing) would just bunch it out.

Stay safe,

Woot!

Actually managed to spray some primer this weekend!! Which means I'm off the starting blocks for getting them painted.

Just a few pictures to show things are moving along gradually. The DKOK infantry are being done slowly, the tanks need weathering and more, but are looking more the part now.

Even with the primer, it still looks like it's going to topple over.
Nice 'Whack-A-Tank-Commander' though, i can see the fear in his eyes for that mallet.

Could I suggest maybe either bulking out the turret with plasticard/green stuff or putting something around the barrel at about 1/4 of the way down and another something at about the 3/4 mark. Even just a simple circle of green stuff around the barrel would go a long way to make it less mismatched.

Looking forward to seeing how you paint them all.

IMO that cannon is a bit too long, just seems out of balance, maybe some form of support struts on it?
