I put my weapon sponsons in the slots closer to the front of the LR. Since this goes against what's shown in the instructions, have I broken any rules? Is my LR illegal?

Perfectly legal. I've seen them modeled both ways so it's just preference.

Real-wise... I would feel safer coming out of a door BEHIND the twin-linked lascannons... Nothing like being ordered to disembak out of a side door and watching your brother marines head get vaporized because he stepped out just when the crew targeted that nasty wraithlord bearing down on it.

I always took it that the Las Cannons would rotate to the sides or backward to provide covering fire instead of frying the disembarking troops.

I have mine in the back but that's just personal prefernce. If i ever get another one Im gonna put them in the front DAaddict's advice also that way your oppant cant claim a cover save due to interventing models (your own dudes infront of your lascannons).

I like the lascannons in the back for some reason. *shrug* I suppose it depends on my feeling towards the model when I began building it from the instruction. Yet it makes more sense not to get the lascannon to the face when getting out.

I put the flamers on the front so I could get closer to targets with them. I mean, I modeled for an advantage. But if WD has a picture of a lr with stuff in the front, I'm not worrying about it.

All my landraiders have their weapon mounts set to the front 'door' and I have been too tournaments with them. I have yet to have anyone say anything about it. Quite honestly, it seems to make more sense to have them in front to keep the troops from getting a face full of lead or whatever.

The instructions provided in the Chaos Land Raider box explicitly state that the guns go up front. I had no idea they even could go in back until I was done and then looked at the picture on the box.

I can understand a regular land raider having the godhammers on the back door to be closer to the power plant or whatever, but on the crusader the twin linked bolters look absolutely unfeasible. They'd shoot anyone to pieces the moment they stepped out the door.

You don't get to be a 10,000 year old Chaos Marine by walking through your own lascannon fire.

Heres an idea what if you put both sponsons on one side and just left the other side bare with 2 doors. I think it would be kinda cool i think tacticaly you would have an advantage cause you could hide a whole squad behind the land raider and still fire the 2 lascannons or flamers. any thoughts?

That would severly limit the arc of fire of one of the Las depending on the direction of fire. If firing on the extreme left the right Las wouldn't be able to target and vice versa.

I think that would be really funny if someone actually did place both lascannons on one side. It would be great for blocking the door to a building just plant your land raider outside and have your marines or whatever troops you have disembark into the building and have the two lascannons guard the entrance. Dont know how often it would be effective but thats besdes the point.

This is my thought process, as well.
That is why every Land Raider I've ever built (and ever will) has the side sponsons on the FRONT!

Or...you know, the guns stop firing while troops disembark...besides the guns look dumb mounted at the front, especially on the Crusader, and no i don't care if I lose an inch or two of range.

It is enough to have giant skulls and zero ground clearance on my tanks. Forcing Bob and his brother marines to disembark in front of the big guns is too grim and dark for the future. I mean the IG don't do that, and they don't give a whip about handing that noob platoon grenades and telling them to run at the big bug with crab claws.

.... well is there any thing in the rules stopping mounting ...
a) one front one back? (no idea why)
b) both guns on one side? (POMS some thing with the front gun and blast the hell with the side guns)

If the guns aren't firing, why bother?

One of the main reasons to have your guns mounted on the back is if you have a Ruleslaywer of the highest caliber, (Insert nickname for a mule) that won't even let you disembark an entire squad in normal situations let alone when it gets blown up because you physiclay can't fit all the models within 2" of the door. Not sure how this gets handled in tournaments, Personaly I'm of the mind set of "You can get out of your Dang dedicated transport"

I dont think there is a rule anywhere that says you can't have both guns on one side. Also why would you ever want to play with a ruleslawyer they just make the game stressfull and unfun.

I wouldn't let you disembark unless you could get all the models within 2" of the doors either, because there's a specific emergency disembark rule which you use when this situation occurs that forces certain penalties on the unit, If you want to be able to disembark as though it was an open topped vehicle, play as orks or dark eldar, otherwhise follow the rules.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I agree with Drunkspleen. A rule is a rule. But, in the case of a landraider, I know you can get all 16 models (Crusader variant) out in front of the Landradier's front doors with little problem. The picture on pg. 67 is very clear and shows that you only need a sliver of your own base to be within 2" of an access point. In many cases this means you can stack your models 3 deep from a Landraider front hatch and have and all will be well within 2" because of its design.

Its not a hard thing to do its just a hassle but it is possible I know I have to do it when I play. However it is part of the game and if you want to disembark faster play with open topped transports.

Interestingly enough, I feel the same about having them mounted in the back openings.

Front or back doesn't matter to me. I think both on the same side would be modeling for advantage and I would call shenanigans!
