Alright. I need help. List after list, I realize that my lists are just kinda... meh...
After my topic about the competitive lists, it was pretty much agreed that they are at least tier 2 in tournament play, but I don't know exactly how to make a list to maximize their potential.
Can anyone help me with what I need to make a killer list?

(Also, I'm playing 1000 point games)

Razorback rush at 1000 points.

Mechanized Marines work well and at 1000 points you cant really afford big characters nor special toys. Razorbacks can get you that mobile heavy weapon while remaining cheap and transporting 5-6 man squads to score or hide with a special weapon.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

Yeah, I imagined some kind of mobile army was the key. Armor is pretty hard to punch through reliably at 1k points. What are some of the best HQ choices for em though? I love the Captain, but that's only because the command squad looks so darn cool. I also used to be a big fan of the Chaplain, but he seems to be best used when accompanies by a Death Company, and is named Lemartes.

Sternguard with combi-meltas and drop pods led by Kantor. You can use the meltaguns to pop vehicles when you land and let loose with the special ammunition. It's a really common powerlist now.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I recently played an RTT at 1250 pts and won it.
Please find the battle reports in a thread at the respective forum here at Dakka.
The list might give you some hint how to build a (small) competitive SM army.

Awesome, I'll do that when I actually get home. Browsing .from work right now.

IMO this is better with Drop Pods and Libs using Gate to keep the SG out of combat. Run locator beacons on the pods so you can gate out of assault without scattering, then unload more special ammo into the opposing unit. Of course if you go this route, you're in trouble when the opposing player starts his army in reserve.
